What's new

I'm getting bored with my frags.

Well if it was going to happen to anyone it was going to be me.
I'm getting bored with 90% of my frags.
I only have a few that I go to now.

Some of you will tell me to stick them away for another day. That's actually good advice.
But recently, I've been pulling out what I've put away and I still don't dig them.

Ahhhh but don't you worry. I'm cooking something up.

I dont get bored of my main suspects but I do have one that the wife bought for me that I dont dislike per se, but just doesnt seem to be for me (Perry Ellis Platinum label.)

I'd be curious to know what type of fragrances you prefer and which are your favourites and those that are now locked?

Do you have any you are going to buy to replace the ones you are burned out on?

I've got some samples coming in the mail. Let's just say they are a departure from what I normally wear.
When they come in, you guys will be the first to hear about it.

mix them all together into a frankenfume?

I've done some layering with some frags, but it takes too much time to find the perfect amount.
I will however take a sample atomizer and mix 1 spray of a bunch of frags to see what happens.
When that happens, you guys will be the first to hear about it.

Have you explored much from Parfumerie Generale?

I love PG Coze. If I were to buy a full bottle of anything, it would be Coze.
I have tried Indochine and one other that I can't remember right now.
I'm a fan of PG for sure.

I'll have to look at my collection to jog my memory.
For sure I can say Bleu de Chanel and Azzaro PH.
There are more, but I've put them aside.

Fall is approaching and anyone who has lived in this area knows how the seasons are. Already it's getting cold.
But even then, I wonder if the old boys will be the same....

I have intentionally kept my fragrance wardrobe to a low number so I have only those that I enjoy and wear often. Definitely curious about what you are cooking up.

How large is your frag collection ?

I at one time was over 400 fragrances - I'm now trying to cut it down a bit to maybe 200 frags.
Then over the next years, I will further try to cut it down so I end up having 25 spring and summer frags, 25 fall and winter frags and maybe 25-50 all year frags.

I don't think I can ever cut down my collection to less than 50 ever again, you see I also get quite bored when I use the same fragrance several days in a row - so for the last year or so, I have not used the same frag more than maybe 12 times, once a month or so - FYI I apply frags 2-3 times a day - once before going to job, once when I get home from job and go to the gym or shopping, and once before bed time.

I also mix my frags quite often to get some extra dimension and variety. Usually I have a pretty good feeling what will work well together and what will not. I will say that 3/5 times I have ended up with mixes that are good to great, and 1/5 times I end up with something tolerable and 1/5 I end up with a mix I dislike and will never try that mix again.

I'll drop one of B&B's most famous quotes on ya:
"I'll tell you something tomorrow..."

(not really tomorrow, my samples haven't come yet, but you get the joke)

Ok, no one on the planet has as many frags as you. Be fair! :001_tongu
I just think my nose is wanting more. Something more complex.
Something that harkens to a distant land somewhere far away.....

I can't wait to crack out the Burberry London. It's one of my faves.
Maybe I'm yearning for the fall to come?

If you want complexity, then start sampling niche frags and high end designers IMHO

Burberry London is one of the finer designer frags, but I prefer to use it from October to early January - it smells of pine trees, christmas & winter to me, but has quite poor longevity, so I only use it in the late fall and early winter, because in mid january where the cold start to take over here, London will not project or last longer than 4-5 hours on me.
Try Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur, Amouage Lyric Man, Dior Homme Intense, L'Instant de Guerlain Eau de Parfum, Chanel Egoiste, Van Cleef & Arpel Midnight in Paris Eau de Parfum, Van Cleef & Arpel Pour Homme, Oscar de La Renta Pour Lui Dark Green, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, Tom Ford Tuscan Leather, Andy Tauer L'air du desert Marocaine, Gucci Pour Homme II, Lalique Pour Homme 'Lion', Mugler Pure Malt, Bogart Pour Homme, Thallium Black, 24H Gold, Mugler Pure Leather, Chanel Antaeus, YSL Opium EDP, YSL Opium EDT, YSL La Nuit de L'Homme Le Parfum, Zino Davidoff, Guerlain Heritage, Ungaro III, Dior Fahrenheit Absolute and Dsquared Potion if you want some of the better composed darker frags.

The above frags is among my favorites from December to April. I also apply lighter frags during the colder months, but not when I'm going out and to work - but when I apply before going to bed or just when I'm sitting indoor and want to smell goooooddddd :biggrin1:

I now just rotate through my top tier lately (MIP, DH, DHI, LIDGE, Cd68, Bvlg Blk, La Nuit) and hardly ever touch most of my collection. It's ok. My MIP was sitting around for 6 months and I didn't touch it, now I love it.

Tastes change. Hated Bvlgari black at first. Now I LOVE it. Hated Musc Rav. Now I love it.

Also I made a point of not wearing Dior Homme for a few weeks after wearing it almost every day. Sniffed it yesterday and it was falling in love all over again. AMAZING and I lost appreciation for it when I was wearing it everyday.

Exactly - just goes to show, that variety in fragrance usage is a good thing to stay open minded and not get fatigued from using the same signature fragrance over and over again...........
I got really tired of Cool Water after having used it excessively in the 90's - but then bought a 200 ml on sale for $25 last year and now I have Cool water in my rotation once again.
I often mix it with Guerlain Vetiver and Eau de Cartier Concentrée and get an almost better scent out of that mix that than I get from my Creed GIT.

Variety is the spice of life

Yes I suppose olfactory fatigue is at play here.

Yet, somehow I think it's more.
I think I'm being led down a different path.....

Marc, you've been expanding your fragrance horizons quite a bit recently, exploring fragrances beyond the designer frags that you previously sort of limited yourself to using. It seems pretty normal, to me, that as you expand your fragrance awareness like you have, you would also become less enchanted with those that previously held your interest. I hope you continue to enjoy your journey in discovering the many fragrances choice available. You certainly help make it enjoyable for us!

Partly why I've been buying 10ml decants much more than bottles lately. Provides lots of variety as my tastes expand. So far, only finished one 10 ml decant - Guerlain Vetiver - and, of course, I promptly bought a bottle. Only fifty or so decants left to finish ;-)

Oh dear god,it really can happen to anyone! I fear for myself 6 months from now....
