I'm about to go Office Space on my printer

Seriously HP why can't you make a printer driver that works with your printer?

I've had this All In One for 7 years and when it work, it's fine but as soon as you change something it craps out. One of the print drivers causes it to take 10 minutes to print a single page of a PDF file. If it's multiple pages you might as well walk away and come back tomorrow. A different driver only prints one copy of something no matter how many you tell it to print. Other ones won't print over a network. It's a Friday, and I may just take this out in a field and put it down.

Planned obsolescence:
Level 1: Make weak hardware that breaks down just after the warranty expires.
Level 2: Make the hardware cheap and the consumables expensive, so repairs aren't cost-effective.
Level 3: Stop perfectly good hardware from working by withdrawing software support for the ever-changing OS.

(Level 4: Make it cloud-based somehow, so the customer becomes a dependent, captive revenue stream and hardware is irrelevant.)

I figured it out. For some reason in the Device Settings something needed to be disabled. This is 2013. I should be able to print things with my mind, why do we still have to deal with this crap.

7 years old and it's still working?

Wow.

I've got a 970Cse that's been problematic for at least 4 years now.
Last time at Costco, I couldn't even find ink for it. I cut my losses and replaced it with a 6700.
Prints super fast, good quality, and the scan/copy/fax functions are nice. I can also send an email to the HP print center and it will print directly so I can take a photo of something and send it home to my wife.

I bought a Epson Artisan 725 a long while back. Great printer so far. copy/print/scan, double sided printing, photos, prints on CD/DVD's. all kinds of goodies.

going price was around $200

The company I worked for was supposed to have the printer on display, and because it was a display they had it marked to $20.00 during a company wide printer clearance sale.

Well I found the printer BNIB, never displayed, some bozo displayed a different printer (make/model) in it's place.

It was a no brainer for me. A $200 printer for 20 bucks! I'll take that, thank you very much bozo!

Wow.

I bought my Brother HL-1435 in 2004 and it's still ticking along just fine.

(I had to replace an ink cartridge "too soon" because the printer got finicky with it and eventually just refused to print ... even though there seemed to be ink left in it ... but once I got a new cartridge, it was back to "fine". It's an 'engineered obsolescence' thing to sell more ink, I know, but I guess they're all like that.)
