What's new

Illinois 6506 question.

The Finish side of the leather strop is starting to get very shiny and markedly losing its draw. What can I do get it back to its initial draw? Thank you.

Some 600 grit sandpaper gives a nice, subtle nap to the leather to bring back the draw.

Whenever I just oiled my strop, it usually just ends up getting slicker.

If you are at the point where you are saying you may want/neeed a new strop, then you have nothing left to loose. Oil it, sand it, mess around with it!

Oh! I almost forgot--get a real beeswax candle and rub that sucker up and down on a freshly oiled strop to seal in all that goodness. The wax also will increase the draw.

I did that with my TM starter strop, and it is an awesome piece of leather now.
