If Gillette and Schick cartridges were DE blades, what brand's quality would they be ?

I have just begun DE shaving and even with the least assertive brand of blade in my sampler pack the smoothness of my face seems better than ever before than when using plastic cartridge blades.

What makes DE shaving smoother than using a plastic cartridge blade ?

With the differences between DE blades themselves and the wisdom of trying a sampler pack to determine the best brand for personal use, it seems like plastic cartridge blades would be subject to the same variance in design.

For instance , why is a Gillette Mach 3 cartridge blade able to exist as almost a "one size fits all" product ?

Are cartridge blades designed to be middle of the road to serve a wide market without offending any demographic too greatly , rather than specific like a DE blade ?

If cartridge blades were instead offered as a DE blade , what brand of DE blade would they be comparable to ?

Unfortunately M3 does not fit all, it used to cause me so much irritation i thought i had sensitive skin and would only shave once a week. After Changing to DE my skin has improved (no razor bumps) and now I can shave daily.

But to answer your question i'm guessing gillette cartridges would be rated smililarly to gillette DE blades. Try the single blade on the back of the fusion cartridge? it's very good. Seems the number of multiple blades were the problem for me not the invidual blades

Personally, I have had excellent experiences with my Mach 3. I get an incredibly close shave and I tend to reach for it when time is tight. I enjoy the process aspects of DE, not to mention, the cost savings! I would say they are high quality, but fracking expensive!
