Identifying a Mystery Razor

Hi there. I am a complete NewB here and I just picked up a mystery razor here at a local pawn and was wondering if anyone could help me identify it.

-It is a spike style razor with black wooden scales. It came in a black little box with the words "Spike Razor" and "Trademark" under what looks to be a smoking pipe. The blade itself looks to be hollow ground and about 3/4 inch wide. It says,"F&C HAAG 113 Canal St. NY" and on the other side a small english style horse and rider in a jumping position over the words "FAVORITE".

Is this a nice old razor or is it just some junk razor sold off a street corner in NY? Any opinions? I havn't had my first straight shave yet as I am still putting together a kit, but would this one be a good beginners razor? Or should I go with a more modern/mainstream razor?
Thanks again for the really great info and shaving support from all you fellows. (and ladys too)

Lol, razors used to cost a dollar back in the day. I'd take the "junk" they sold off a street corner in NY for a dollar over a new dovo any day.

Alright gentlemen, I now have pictures of this old blade. What do you think? Shve it or save it? Should I use another blade? Is it worth a restore?

The Spike brand is supposed to be a nice little blade. Shave with it! (The "pipe" is actually an image of a railroad spike...)

There are a few that I have had my eyes on for a while. Need some funds to be able to go grab one or two...

Thanks for the tip. In that case I will. I like the feel of it already. I just need to find a reliable honemeister to give me running start. So I can learn what a proper edge feels like. Know any?
