I'd like to see scales made out of _____

I'd like to see scales made out of:

Vinyl records
Disco-ball facets
That glowing-edged plastic used for clipboards (didn't somebody do that?)
Watercolor Micarta
Hammered brass
Pressed-flower Micarta
Cigar-label Micarta
Passport-page Micarta (with all sorts of stamps)
Postage-stamp Micarta
Chrome
Fern-leaf Micarta
Denim Micarta
Jade
Glow-in-the-dark material
Compact discs
Candy paint (iridescent)

Any more ideas?

I don't have the tools or inclination to make scales, so...all of you awesome resto/maker types: please hurry up and make these! Now! Go!

Your friend in dreamland,

gash

Paco has a razor in b/s/t that looks like it has the clipboard scales, and I'm pretty sure I've seen denim micarta scales here at some point.

Are CD's wide enough to make scales long enough, while avoiding the hole and the clear section around it? I think a Lazerdisc would yield more useable material
I've seen vinyl records somewhere on here in some contest, looked great

I like your idea on the passport. One day I'd like to make a vacuum setup and try making stuff like that. I was thinking old, scripty handwritten letters would be cool too, maybe used postcards or something

Jade would look amazing, but I'd be a little leery about using it. I've seen pieces thicker than scales snap in half pretty easily. You could line it with something to make it safer, but then you'd lose the awesomeness of the light coming through it

Denim and Cigar Labels have been done. Stainless (or Chrome or Brass) makes a very heavy set of scales in most cases - TI has a stainless version and it seems to destroy the balance of the razor. Some good ideas for the others although I prefer a more conservative design for scales.

ditto on snake skin & fern!! very cool!

I'd love to see scales made out of petrified wood, fossilized Ammonite or trilobite

or for precious stones, Opal, Tiger's eye and I think more than anything, out of a piece of really high quality Labradorite

my first reply was my ex's cold, stone heart. but that'd be inappropriate, so my lawyer tells me.

I'm constantly amazed by the skills displayed here.
