What's new

I think I'm figuring out what I like

With all the different products I've bought and tried, I'm narrowing down what I am going to stock my den with for the long haul.

Razors: I've narrowed my DEs to three that I use regularly. My Futur, Vision, and EJ87. I will still use my tech and SS's on occasion, but the main three will be my go to razors. I have a Merkur slant on order and it may break into the starting line up, but I've never used a slant before so I'm not getting my hopes up.

I have three straights that I use only when I have the time to really enjoy the shave, maybe 1-2 times a week.

Blades: Red iPs. I have tried Feathers, Astrras, Gillettes, sharks....etc. but the Red IPs are my favorites and always give me the smoothest shave.

Lather: I prefer a lather the consistency of cake batter that really sticks to my face. I can achieve this with any TOBS cream and I usually super lather a cream with a hard soap. I'm narrowing my soaps to just cella and Arko.

Post shave: I have so many aftershaves and I have learned that I really only want to use mentholated aftershaves like Prorasso and Floid. I use thayers witch hazel lemon every shave.

The only product I'm really not set on is a favorite brush. I have a custom Rudy Vey in the works that I hope cures this ailment so I am eagerly awaiting its arrival. Hopefully by the end of the summer my den will be trimmed down to only the products I really enjoy using.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the slant.

Like you, I'd given up on my 1948-50 Super Speed. I didn't think I'd use it again as I wasn't too fond of it. But one day I did, then next day put a Gillette 7 O'Clock yellow into it, and wound up using it for two weeks straight. Beats me why the change of heart.
Cheers,
Renato

Renato1, I have had the exact experience with my British Flare Tip Rocket (similar to SS) and 7 O'Clock Yellows. I have only been DE shaving since early January, and have tried many razors and some blades, but my records and memory indicate that my best shaves came from this combination. I stopped at 8 shaves, but I think I could have kept going. The next time the combo comes up in rotation, I will see what the limit it. Nevertheless, I am trying to cut down the amount of hardware and software I have and just use what works for me. Right now, the Rocket and Yellows are at the top of the list. And that beats my polished Weber, R89, EJ89, and Tech.
