What's new

I think I just bought a Bulldog?

Indeed you did. That is a Bulldog. And a very good price as well.

Awesome! I hate it's not in a case but these seem rare so I didn't hesitate. It was listed for all of 2 minutes and I snagged. I wasn't sure if the price was right for one without the case.

Bulldogs are silver plated, no?

Yeah, I was going to say. It is listed as 1904. 1914 makes more sense.

I think mine is 1917? Be careful when you use it. These razors are pretty aggressive. :scared:

Yeah, as with most sellers who don't know what they are listing on Ebay, I figured the 1904 date was coming from the patent. And thanks for the advice on the shave with it. I'm looking forward to it.

Congrats on the great find. The price was very, very good. I think it was listed the week before without a buy-it-now option with an opening bid price that was a little higher. I was shocked that it didn't sell then. So, you got a great deal. And it looks like it will clean up very, very nicely.

You did very well. I have two of these, and I paid more than that for each of them.
It's a lovely razor. It's an old-type head, which needs respect, regardless, but with the heft of that handle, it's surprising how much more aggressive it can be than an ordinary single ring. I think you'll enjoy it.

I would agree with the others that you did well in terms of this auction. Bulldog type razors generally go for more money.

The Bulldog is now in hand. Arrived this morning. Will take before and after pics when I go for the baking soda/aluminum foil cleaning.

Here's before and after pics. Cleaned it using the baking soda/aluminum foil method found here. It wasn't in that bad of shape really. You can see in the before pics most of the tarnish at the top of the handle and the neck as well as in the grooves of the knurling on the handle. Top of the head cap was also covered in tarnish but it's mirror shiny now. The after pictures are without any sort of polishing as I don't have any kind of non-abrasive polishes on hand right now. Once I get it polished, it should look even better. There's still a few spots of tarnish that the baking soda wouldn't budge.
