I think I got my first bad blade

Popped in a new Shark Chrome into my 50's Super Speed and got a ton of irritation and razor burn. I revisited it the next day making sure my blade angle was correct, and still got more burn than I ever have with a Shark Chrome.

At this point, I think I got my first bad blade.

To confuse, things, though, these were my first two shaves with this particular razor, and this particular model. So I can't say until I use it again with another blade what the culprit is.

I have a Red Tip, a Slim, a 70's black handle SS, and a Tech, so I am familiar with Gillette razors. I would think the aggressiveness of the 50's SS would fall somewhere in between the Red Tip and the 70's black handle SS. I've never gotten this much irritation from my other Gillettes. Do you think I got a bad blade?

Thanks,
K.T.

It happens to all of us. I had a vertical-pack Derby about a month ago that cut me to shreds. The rest of the blades in the pack were fine.

Heal quickly!

When I was using Derby's I'd get a bad one often. Sometimes more than one in a pack (or so it seemed).
not to worry. It does happen

Duds and other bad blades will crop up from time-to-time. If you get the impression your blade is bad, discard it right away and replace it. It seems obvious but some individuals will struggle through the shave thinking things will get better.

Thanks, guys. I do think it was a bad blade. My first. It also seemed to have a hard time cutting very effectively, so even more evidence.

I"m going to give the 50's SS the benefit of the doubt. It's well used, but otherwise looks perfect. Doesn't look like the gap or safety bars are out of alignment. I'll use it again on Tuesday with a fresh blade. Wish me luck!

Best,
K.T.

Merkur blades do this to me every time I try one. Derbys occasionally will, but I find some good ones in there, as well.
