What's new

I think customs has an item I sold.

Back on the 11th I shipped a Feather SS to a member (JeffBC) from Canada to the U.S. I use air shipping all the time.
2 days ago I received a message from our fellow member stating that this item has not been received yet. Now, this is the first time I have sent anything over the value of $100. I am wondering if it's been caught up in customs?

Seems like a hell of a long time to have to wait for an item. Most small packet items I have sent only take about 7-9 days. Canada post does not offer tracking on items of this format.

Should I start to panic? I don't like the idea of someone purchasing something from me and not receiving it.

I sent a razor from the USA to Australia and it took 42 days to reach the buyer. And it wasn't even stuck in Customs. The buyer had received many other international packing in 7 or so days.

I got moves like Jagger
I've had things take up to 8 weeks to arrive from the states. Shipping to the US usually occurs pretty fast for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if sometimes things take longer.

Of all the razors I've bought ebay, 2 have never arrived. The first not to arrive was two yrs ago and the second approx 1 1/2 yrs ago. According to the USPS website, the razors are still at the processing center. I gave up hope long ago of them ever leaving the processing center.

Eventhough you couldn't get tracking, did it come with insurance? If so, then you should file an insurance claim as soon as you can. No consolation if the razor doesn't arrive, but at least you can recoup some of the money.

Early this year I had a razor I bought on eBay take over 3 weeks to be delivered to KS from Canada.

It's funny. Sometimes it's almost easier to deliver it yourself. Fingers crossed that it gets where it needs to go.

Even if you didn't pay for tracking you can use the customs form number to track at usps.com (even on packages originating outside the US). It won't give much detail but will give you an idea where it is held up.

I had similar issue and CP is little to no help once it leaves your hands.

you can't put a claim in for weeks and even then, it is a freaking hassle, paperwork, copies, rejections etc.

hope it all works out for you, but yes, with air it should be there in 5-7 days. who knows with the storm they are having though. i have a parcel coming from US to WPG and it has not shown an update for a week, and it's no where close to the storm area.

We sent a Dovo from the UK to the US by RM Airsure, it got to NY customs in 2 days then just sat there for 2 weeks until the customer asked where it was, we are able to tell them it was suck in customs and that he should contact them, he was able to get it soon after.

Shipping around the world is highly variable, one day its quick the next it can be extremely slow even with express shipping, customs can be a major problem of slow deliveries. We have had Brazil and Russia being very slow most of the time and yet Thailand which I know from personal experience is a bit of a minefield for post, we have had stuff be delivered from the UK in 3 days!, but one thing I can say is that we rarely lose items in the post they nearly always turn up, even if it is very late.

Dieselfuel79 I just went through this, I had sent a pair of razors to a fellow member in Australia back on Aug 11 and by October 8th he had not received the item yet so I refunded the buyer. I filed an insurance claim with Canada Post; they were very easy to deal with and I had a cheque reimbursing my amount including shipping within a week and a half. Turns out the buyer in Australia received the package just after I made the claim and re-paid me. As soon as I received the CP cheque I sent it back to them with a letter explaining the situation.
For a small packet surface you have $100 is insurance automatically.

The rules for filing an insurance claim with CP for an international package is that you have to wait until 60 days have elapsed from sending the package to making the claim. Like I said the claim process was pretty easy for me, I just called in and provided all the info (tracking #, buyer's address, contents, value, etc.). I can PM you the name of the CP rep I dealt with if you want that info.

Tell the buyer to wait it out until 60 days have elapsed, if he still does not have it then refund the money and file a claim with CP.

Thanks for the info fellas. Looks like I have no choice but to wait at this point. I hope he gets the items sooner than later.

Been trying to get in touch with the member that I sold this to, for the last 2 weeks. I am not sure if it's finally arrived. His PM inbox has been showing as full, so I am posting here in case he happens to read this at some point.

I hope it got there. I ship a lot and I know how frustrating it can be.
I give a good 2 weeks when sending or recieving packages before I start to worry.

I lost a Streamline recently. I was the buyer. The seller shipped from the UK to CT. I waited a little over three months and then the seller refunded my money. Bad situation all around. Neither of us have the razor now, and he's out the money.

bummer. I sent a few pipes and a couple samples of tobacco (clearly marked as samples and in baggies not in tins, so it shouldn't have been a tax issue)a gift to a B&B friend in the Great White North back in early July. it still hasn't arrived :(

tho i sent him another package later without the tobacco and it got there no problem.

here's hoping it turns up!

In the US, when you fill out the customs form they give you a number that you can use to track the package until it hits the border. After it crosses the border, it's anyone's guess as to where the package went, but it gives you partial peace of mind. I've been selling a lot of hockey cards to Canadians and it looks like it takes a good two weeks to get to their destination.

I wish 2 week was all this one took. I shipped this on Oct. 11 and as far as I know, the member does not have it yet. PM box still full.
