What's new

I really think I am done with my ADs

It has been quite a run, esp the last three months. I have been tearing through various Ads; blades, razors, soap, cream and brushes. The blades and DE disorders were the first cleared, which wasn’t that bad to be truthful – because the Muhle, Edwin Jagger and Feather AS agreed with me so much more than myMerkur or the various vintage Gillettes. It was very easy to find the right blade for my preferred razors thanks to sampler packs

Creams settled down after a blitz, because I was able to sort out those that I liked really from those that were good, but not great. Geo. Trumpers, T&H and Nancy Boy are all I desire going forward.

My last two ADs have been the toughest: soaps and brushes. The soaps may be settled as of today, as a coworker that I have been PIFing shave stuff to has come back from Paris with a jar of Martin de Candre. I am thrilled with the gift, it smells great and I cant wait to give it a test lather tonight.

Brushes have been a challenge, as I have been picking up new ones as well as vintage handle to restore. I have acquired a B&B LE 2012 brush and used it for the first time today – awesome – which satisfied my *need* to have a shavemac D01 Two band. The new horn handled silvertip brush from QED will be delivered today, which completes my *need* for aSaville Row brush. b/t/w – if you call QED and talk to Charles, you wont believe how engaging and enthusiastic the man is about what he does. A great person and I felt great about buying from him.

So by the end of today I will have acquired my last “want list” brush and soap. There are some limited edition items on the horizon that I will buy, but that is just about it for me.

I think I am done

My ADs have quieted down for the most part. I still hunt for stuff in the local antique stores but I only focus on stuff that I really want. Which leaves me coming home empty handed for the most part. I pass up a lot of razors. About the only thing left on my list is to try Palmolive shave cream and sticks and make my own travel set in the vein of the Gillette Combination sets.

My ADs have died down too. Still spend too much time here and antique stores have become a new hobby. But I don't pull the trigger unless real value is there.

No, no! Think of all the money you'll save by umm, err...oh, who am I kidding?

Abandon all hope ye who enter here.

Yeah, don't go there! LOL, my ADs have calmed down, but I know it's temporary. I've avoided the Nib at all cost, I already have a budding interest in fountain pens.

Okay, I hear you. I really do. Seriously, I hear you. You can stay in remission for some time until it happens, ROF, or reacclummulation of funds.

Just like that! I have a hand turned zebra wood pen, it uses cross style refills. If I ever found a fountain that looks like it, I'd have to get it. Let me guess, you've got just the thing! LOL

Well, I know a guy...

Seriously, you would definitely get sucked in get some excellent advice on finding exactly what you're looking for in The Nib.

Glad you're AD is in remission. I remember when you were scoring 2 or 3 razors a day there for awhile. My ADs are lessoning too and it seems shaving gear prices are skyrocketing right before my eyes...so it's time for me to cool down. Just yesterday I saw a gold Tech in a case for over $100.
