Maybe that's why razors started being made from pot metal. If brass was being reserved for the war effort, perhaps zinc was employed to keep production going for some brands.

Great ad. love the bonus pic ;) Gives you some perspective. We've been at war in some part of the world for many years now but most of us civilians don't make daily sacrifices for the effort like our parents and grandparents had to.

One wonders if us modern folks would submit to the same sacrifices. They also went without new cars for that period of time as well.

Of course, not only did the Brits have the same restrictions but they were bombed on a regular basis unlike us Yanks. "Keep Calm & Carry On." Indeed!

My grandfather worked as foreman of a guard crew at Oak Ridge where they were working on the atomic bomb during the war. Here's a page from the timebook he kept for his crew. It covers one week in October of 1943. The men were working 7 days per week and almost 60 hrs.$Bk 1051.jpg
Later on as the effort accelerated the men worked 80 or more hours per week. They made good money for the time there just wasn't anything you could spend it on. Meat, sugar, cars, tires, clothing, just about everything was rationed. Tough times but they made the best of it.

And much shinier than mine. Last year it started growing moss because I left it in one spot too long. Great weather so I was riding my motorcycle all the time.
