I need help! Brush wise at the least

To my fellow B&B members I need your expert opinions. Being new to the DE shaving clan I am somewhat overwhelmed by the multitude of choices that are out there for all aspects of wet shaving. I'm currently using a DE89 with Astra blades, which has done a very admirable job. I have been bowl lathering with AOS Sandalwood cream with a rather inferior brush. Trying to see what recommendations are out there without breaking the bank. Mind you we are not talking a big bank here. I'm thinking if I could find something decent that would last without shedding like my current brush, I kept thinking i was getting dog hairs in the bowl from my lab at first, that would be terrific. I know there are a ton of recommendations in the brush forum but I'm just trying to narrow that window down. As always I respect the recommendations of my brothers. Thanks!

I'll start. Simpsons Colonel(badger) ~$65 or Semogue 1305 (boar) ~ $20. Both have a great reputation and I think would be a great place to start. Very versatile brushes - soaps, creams, bowl, face lathering, you name it.

So anything anyone says will be a YMMV thing, but there are usually two roads, badger and boar. Badger holds more water "can be softer" and usually has less backbone, also can be very expensive. Boar absorbs water and is usually scratchier but "can be softer" than some badger and usually has more backbone, also need more time to break in and dry but can be had for very cheap. That being said here are my brushes, and I would recommend all of them. I wont post current prices but all can be found at WCS.

I will second the Semogue 1305 and the B&B Essential. Both are great boar brushes and see equal time in my rotation.

For an inexpensive badger, let me recommend Whipped Dog. I have one of his silvertips, but I hear the black badger is also good. The silvertip (depending on size) runs around $30, slightly cheaper for black.

Frank Shaving synthetic custom; $25 shipped, dries within 3 hours, super soft tips and makes tons of lather.

Wet Shaving Products Prince brushes for badger
Good luck.
