I love this brush, what would it be best suited for?

I don't own this brush. I would like to own it. but man, I love this brush, the shape is so pleasing. But why would one want a shape of this sort. What would this brush be best suited for, face lather, bowl lathering, soaps, creams or all of the above? Also, it's almost $300. OUCH

That is obviously a huge (and consequently very expensive) shaving brush. For some thoughts on the more regular-sized brother of that Thäter, you might like to check our Brush Chronicles.

I'd say it's best suited to head lathering. It's massive!

I have a Thater 4292/6, a pretty massive brush,I head shave everytime I shave my face,so a larger brush fits my needs. If you're not a head shaver a smaller version of that brush will suit your needs way better.

That one would be good for placing in a shadow box to show off and impress your friends :001_smile

Honestly, I have moved away from super human sized brushes back into the realm of more human sized brushes. I find I enjoy a brush better if I can move it around using only one hand

I supposes if you shaved your head and beard you might have a use for something that large or maybe for the ladies with miles of leg to cover.

I just acquired a 30+ brush in a bulb that works great... I wish it was the thater, but its truly a great experience regardless.

And I really dont have an extraordinaryly large sized mug.. my "head" on the other hand ...

I have a big 30mm+ M&F Stubby with a fan knot and it's great for loading hard soaps. lots of thick lather and covers a huge amount of face.

it's used in rotation and sees as much use as my other brushes do. i ONLY face lather with it and try to put it in use when i'm using a SOAP, as it does use a ton of product.

it's nice to have variety, different sizes, different lofts, as you never know when your tastes are going to change.

I think that HUGE 32mm knot is great for face lathering hard triple milled soaps, as already pointed out above.

I have the SRP LE 2 band Thater and it is a great overall brush. The bulb shape is fine for face or bowl lathering. As a matter of fact, I used it this morning.

I just got a 30mm silvertip from Whipped Dog, $36 delivered. I use it for bowl lathering and my only complaint is I need a bigger bowl :) Though it's big it's quite manageable for using on my face. My other regular brush is an Omega 10049 boar which is even bigger and I use the same way. Though that one tends to get stray lather in my ears sometimes.

I want that brush. It's so beautiful, and would look great on my counter

But 285 is a lot of money

My fiancé would kill me if she knew I spent that much on a brush.

don't buy a brush because it looks good on a counter, unless you want to become a collector and display them.

it's a monstrous brush, I'm sure it's great, but don't think it's right for you at this time (given that you had to ask what it's best purpose would be).

Definelty still learning about brushes. This would be a future purchase. I think it would work well in a large scuttle. That's why I made the thread to learn more about large brushes and what they are best designed for

i find larger brushes like this to be very specific in their function. soaps, face lather and that's about it.

would work well in a brush scuttle, but don't think it would do well as a bowl lathering brush in a regular scuttle.

considering how big these knots are, the handles are even bigger. and as nice and luxurious is as the brush is to use (my M&F), it's not the most comfortable to hold as it's got such a wide diameter handle.

I like to do both. Face and bowl. I'm actually waiting on a scuttle from RB.

Your last sentence raises an interesting point. It is hard to find shops dedicated to wet-shaving in Ottawa, I"m sure you have the same problem in Winnipeg (my mom grew up there, and my uncle and Grandma still live there). It makes it difficult to touch and see before you buy.

So why would would such a large brush be better suited for face lathering?

I'm very intrigued by brushes. They come in so many shapes and sizes. It's hard to know if they were designed for a specific technique. I always wonder what method the manufacturer has in mind when designing and assembling brushes.
