What's new

I just bought a Kingsley Pure Badger Tortoise - it's HUGE!

Hey all,

I stopped at the British Isles Boutique In Houston, Texas and picked up my first 'real' Badger Brush (upgraded from a Burma Boar hair that was $5 at the drugstore). The pic is below.

It's a Kingsley Tortoise Pure Badger with Silver Weighted Handle. It feels great in the hand, looks even better, and is HUGE - and even bigger when wet . I am amazed at how much water seems to shake out with one or two shakes - but there is still water within...

At first I was second-guessing my purchase as I thought the brush was way to big to make lather, and was making a mess the Caswell-Massey 1752 3.3 oz soap and bowl here

So, I am glad I got the larger bowl - haha....

Since I never mastered lathering before this, i am really going to have to work on it. This was only my second DE shave - but I like to play with the lathering when I am bored...

Is it normal to think the brush is way to big at first - and then realize that it's the perfect size? I hope!

I am going to read some more and look at some youtube videos to work on my lathering. I think I am simply too impatient and want nice later in 45 seconds!

Thanks,

Matt!

It really is a matter of personal preference. I don't own a brush with a knot over 20mm, and I don't regularly use one with a knot over 18mm. Some people just like small brushes. Same way some of the guys here like the giant 25+mm monsters.

I just hope I can adapt too it.... I guess I should try more than once before I make my decision....lol.

Otherwise, it will be up for trade!

Ok,

much better - I actually paid attention to some guidelines, and now I can make lather just fine.... My VDH glycerin makes very solid foam - as well as some cream I have from the Body Shop...wohoo!

If you have a few extra dollars, I recommend you pick up a stick of Speick or a puck/stick of Tabac. The scents are kind of particular, but the lather is incredible. Both will run you under $15 shipped if you buy them together.

I have the same brush and find it outstanding with both creams & soaps, although I probably use it more for creams and my boar brush more for soaps.

Using any shave brush is a very personal thing. I think you have to try several different sizes until you find just what you like. If you like that big brush, and it works the way you want it too, so much the better. You may have found your best brush right away. If not maybe it'll find a place in your brush rotation. And if all else fails, there's always B/S/T. :wink2:
