What's new

I have a screw loose!

Or so I've been told. :biggrin1:
But seriously, I have been shaving with my Ever Ready 24/12 razor, that I acquired at an antique store, for the past couple of weeks to try it out. Every once in a while the head would loosen from the handle during a shave. Yesterday it started loosening after every pass. Bummer, as I was liking it a lot.

Looking closely at it, it looks like the threads in the head are worn. I don't think they are stripped, but definitely loose. After I tighten the handle I can very easily twist it loose. I'm sure this has happened before to other shavers. Does anyone have a fix they have tried? I was thinking of Locktite, but thought I would hold off until I hear from other members. Thanks for any input.

A couple of questions:

1) What is a 24/12 razor? I know the 1924 design and the 1912 design? Is yours some kind of Frankenrazor?
2) Are you sure that the handle and razor are a match? GEM/Ever-Ready changed diameter & pitch several times over the years. If the male section on the handle is narrower than the female on the head, even with the same pitch, it will loosen up easily. If available, you might want to try a different handle to see if it stays tight.

Try wrapping the threads with plumbers tape and see if that seals it up tight? That way, you can always unscrew it if needed.
Just a thought. Never had it happen myself.

Sorry. That should have been 'patented march 24 1914'. I must have been thinking 1912 razor.

Blue or Green Loctite would work as well, although it would make later disassembly problematic if not impossible.

Hi,
Funny but my 24/14 was the same. I put a small rubber 'o' ring in-between so it has something with a bit of give to tighten up against.
I've not had a problem since.
