What's new

I can't believe I never tried!

I just tried face lathering for the first time ever. I was using an AoS pure badger brush, and a tub of Cella shave soap. I don't know why I waited over a year to try face lathering... it's sooooo much easier for me to get a good lather than with a bowl. For the first time I had lather that looked like what I drooled over in Mantics videos. I guess I'm just a face lathering type of guy. Anyone else have better results face lathering than mug/bowl lathering?

I tend to get better lather in a bowl than on the face but that doesn't mean I don't get great lather using either method. I use a bowl largely because I can make adjustments to it easier if I need to add water. Plus, I can generate lather faster in a bowl.

I went through the bowl, then the whole scuttle thing before I found face lathering. I face lather 100% of the time now...only way to shave!

Ditto. Did the whole bowl lathering, etc. but find face lathering to be more effective and less messy. Just my .02

but find face lathering to be more effective and less messy.

I face lather away from home and bowl lather at home. I find face lathering messier because I tend to flick lather around the bathroom where as when I bowl lather it stays in the bowl.

Maybe I am just messy!

I get great lather either way, but my preference is for bowl lathering. But each to whatever they like best! :thumbup1:

With a shave stick, I can go from zero to fully formed and applied lather in about 45 seconds. In the morning, those extras seconds/minutes count so I try to work as quickly and simply as possible.

LOL same thing happens to me. I spend more time cleaning up the bathroom than shaving. Bowl lathering is the only way for me.

The first time I tried face-lathering, I never again lathered in a mug.

Seems to save time and give me better results.

I have only face lathered. Until I found B&B I had never heard of bowl lathering. I thought face lathering was the only way to lather with a brush.

I have to admit, though, that when I use Williams in a shaving mug, I tend to create a lot of lather in the mug before I face lather with it.

Somebody, I forget who, posed the question, "Why lather in a bowl? You're not shaving it". Since then, face lathering and it works great.

For those of you that find face lathering messy, does your lather hold up, or does it turn out too thin? I've always face lathered, and never found it messy.

I was wondering the same thing. How can there be "lather all over the place?" No face latherer would ever fling lather around.

You get some soap/cream on the end of your brush and 'lather' (this is a verb, not a noun) on you face.

Inquiring minds want to know.

I got mixed results bowl lathering.......with face lathering, I load my brush and then sort of "distribute" it around my face. Then, I add a few drops of water to the brush, work my face, repeat as necessary (maybe 3-4 times). Way easier for me to judge the consistancy of the lather and one less thing/step to deal with.
