What's new

I admit this might be pushing it.

I just put a coffee pot in my "shave den" and programmed it to turn on 10 minutes before I get up. I just want really hot water for my scuttle without going to the kitchen at 4 am. to go to the microwave. The hot water from the faucet just didn't get it warm enough to suit me. It that too out there?

My only concern would be if the extra hot water might be bad for your brush. I'm sure someone else here can enlighten us on that issue.

As long as you don't soak the brush for a lengthy time in that hot water, it should be fine. If it isn't too hot to put up with on his face, the brush should be fine.

The literature that came with the scuttle you can use boiling water to fill the reservoir and inner bowl. I soaked the brush for two minutes max. In the trial run the lather was very warm and comfortable. However, the scuttle itself was hot and you could not hold it. Hey, it's trial and error.

If you could find an adjustable water kettle that may be even better. More temp control and while you don't have a timer, they only take a few minutes to get up to temp.

I fill my scuttle with boiling water and then hop in the shower. When I get out, the water is about the right temp to soak the brush and start the lather.

I do the same and I dont soak my brush more than the time it takes to load my razor, sort out the counter etc. I found a water kettle for about 5 bucks that boils water in about 2 min that works perfectly.

I'd submit that this would help you skip the "priming" of the scuttle. The temp of the water would drop considerably while warming the ceramic of the scuttle enough to actually work.

Doesn't the coffee stain the brush?:biggrin1:

Seems like an ingenious idea. You could always add a little cool water to the scuttle before adding the hot water, to get the temperature you want.

That's not pusing it. It's a great idea.

Heck, some guys go so far as to buy towel warmers.

You can fill your scuttle, prep hot towels, make tea or instant cofee, and sterilize your razor.

You're a genius!!!

I got a hot water kettle but is lasted about 6 months and stopped working so thanks for the Idea! I will be looking for a old coffee pot at the garage sales in my town for this purpose.

Well, it's working out great. I love having hot water ready for my scuttle when I get up. Just fill it up and hop in the shower. I highly recommend the G20 scuttle from Georgetown Pottery.
