how would this razor be to learn on?

wow i had no realized how long it has been since i really did anything in these forums. luckily the personal and other problems i have had are nearly all over.

a few weeks back a friend of mine picked me up a straight razor. she knew i was looking to give straight razor shaving a try. she also knew with my recent problems i would not be able to do anything for quite some time. she came across some razors and after talking to the guy chose one and had given it to me. she would not tell me what she paid only saying the razor did not cost much. after an intense interrogation (me asking a hundred times how much it cost) i at least know it cost under $50. so for good or bad i am going to be down $50.

i am hoping one of you knowledgeable people can tell me if this razor is going to be worth getting honed to learn shaving on. sorry for the crappy cell phone picture. the lettering is gold colored.

I'm not a straight shaver, so I can't give you an opinion on your gift straight. I do, however, have a suggestion on how to get the quickest and best response: Re-post your picture and question over in one of the straight razor forums. There's always somebody hanging out in there, and I'm sure they will know more about your razor than I do. Good luck!!:thumbup1:

maybe an admin can move this the appropriate forum for me since i know i cannot do it. i also did not want to make double posts in the forum.

I have a blade that is similar to that one with no markings on the blade and only Solingen written on the tang. I refer to it as my "no name Solingen". I bought it at a hardware store for 35 €. After it was honed up by a pro, it soon became one of my favourites. So I would say go for it!
