The handle of my Plisson brush has separated from the metal "tub" that contains the badger hairs. Atkinson's has not returned my phone calls in over a year. Are there preferred ways to repair this?
I's really no problem at all to glue the loft back into the handle; i've done it myself with my #14 HMW with a black acrylic handle.
I removed all the old glue residue and filled the hole in the handle with two component glue. Then i placed the loft back and let it stand overnight The loft is now stucked like a rock...
I'm having a similar problem with my Merkur brush. I hope my retailer (royalshave.com) is more responsive.
Perhaps an email to someone in authority mentioning that you intend to detail your bad experiences with them will light a fire under their buttsbecause your tale has made at least this fellow determined to avoid Atkinson's of Vancouver.
Plisson (France) has excellent customer support.
Here in Europe there is a 2 year manufacturers warranty law
They can repair it (like new), or give your money back.
btw my knot has separated, because i drop it on the floor
I don't know whether I would punish Atkinsons. First of all, our interaction was kind of strange: I think a year ago I called and wrote them to complain that my Plisson's knot was separating from the handle and in any event was not well placed in the handle. I sent pictures and Atkinsons promised to get back to me. At some point, and I should have lept at the offer, Atkinsons promised to send me a new brush. But they never did, and when I followed up months later, no one would answer my emails and phone calls. Sometime in the last few months, the knot separated completely from the handle.
But assuming I chose the right glue, everything may have been for the best. I filed down the knot so that the metal band is flush with the plastic that holds the bdger hair. I also removed the old glue from inside the handle. And I have re-attached the knot. Hopefully this will hold. If not, I guess I can try a different glue. But the brush looks 1000 times better already because at last, the knot is level in the handle.
