How to get upper lip better?

I frequently find myself rubbing my cheeks and parts of my chin. I can get BBS on cheeks easy, chin with some effort and touch up. but the lip is my trouble spot. Soft, prone to cuts. I do some N-S WTG and I'll sometimes try XTG kind of diagonal. The nose makes it hard. I know you aren't supposed to cut off your nose to spite your face, but maybe for a better shave?:blink:

My big trouble area as well. What works for me: WTG, WTG, blade buffing XTG with some slight angling around the nose. ATG does not work for me in this area (unless I'd like weepers).

It depends a lot on what razor you're using, as well. I've found that 3 piece razors like the Old Type, New and Tech make it a little easier to maneuver under the nose than TTO razors because of their slimmer head profiles.

Using a EJ 89 now. Not the smallest of heads. Seems similar to a TTO maybe. I'll have to compare. I cringe at the thought of going ATG. Maybe if I had a lip piercing to pull on the stretch the skin? :tongue_smDoes SE or other type of razor improve this?

Same issue here. Never BBS on my lip. I'm a 2 pass shaver WTG and then ATG but on my lip it's only WTG twice and still no BBS. I've just gave up on that area. I use a murker 34C and just under my nose give me problems so I use the corner of the blade and that seems to work well. Very light, very slow, very short strokes there tho.

I did find this and it looks very intriguing to me. Might have to pick it up. Check it out!

I have this problem too.

I just go WTG then blade buff XTG on my upper lip area and it's a close enough shave for me.

grab your nose and pull it up out of the way. stretches the skin out and gives you more room.

but it's still tough. buffing in an ATG/XTG mix seems to work best to get the leftover stuff.

Well I've been dealing with the same problem and using the same razor. YUPLMV Your upper lip may vary of course but over time I added two ATG passes on the upper lip from alternating directions and finally ATG. XTG allows you to use the extreme edge of the blade without interference from the cap of the razor. It's a real challenge to do the ATG because you can't see all of what's going on with the back of your hand in the way. So I suggest a slow refinement of your technique allowing the necessary motor skills to develop. One handy tip for the ATG and XTG passes; always begin them with a freshly rinsed razor - snorting lather and stubble can be very distracting - don't ask me how I know. If sucess still eludes you take comfort in the fact that lip hair and nose hair are approximately the same color and texture and if you cultivate a slightly downcast posture for your head you can probably pass a casual inspection but you will give some people the impression of shyness.

The trick is not to shave the lip, just the bit of skin above it.

I use a very shallow angle when going ATG there.

Light pressure, and getting as close as possible on the WTG prior to the XTG and ATG help me a lot. Puffing out the lip on the WTG helps too.

A tilt of my head upwards and a horizontal stroke across the upper lip and dipping slightly and carefully in the nostrils works well. Any upward or downward strokes don't cut it because the head is too big. A different direction is required.

I avoid ATG above the lip. Advice I give is :
Suggestion I gave someone before which may help for upper lip troubles;

Directly under the nose, I WTG down at the front with the lip curled over the teeth slightly (the curling helps me shave the lip line). At the sides of the nose, WTG but outward and down following the lip line (forming an O with the mouth to flatten the sides) this takes care of the hair directly under the nose at the nostril side and beside the mouth.

I don't XTG or ATG these areas but find this gives good results. Hope I haven't given you a confusing picture here, sing out if I need to clarify any of this.
