How to get cream from container to bowl.

I just ordered my first creams (TOBS) other than C.O. Bigelow (Proraso, which I've not used).

How do I get the cream from the container to the bowl? Stick my finger in it? Use a popsicle stick?

Please help!

The two ways you suggested will work, as well as what mdunn suggested. At one point, I was encouraged to press the soap down with my fingers into the brush. I believe that advice came from a Mall-bound salesperson at a larger purveyor.

From tubes, I just squirted a generous dollop (almond sized) into the bowl.

There's no right or wrong. Just do.

I guess there's no wrong way. I tend to load the brush a bit and transfer that way. With tubes, you can squeeze a bit into bowl/scuttle.

No reason to make it complicated.

I can totally see where it might seem like that is what I'm doing.

However, I watched Mantic's videos sometime ago and he mentioned only needing an almond size of cream. So I was looking for an optimal way to do it without being wasteful.

The problem is every cream is different. You'll need more Proraso than you will the English stuff. And the water ratio will be different too. Experiment and enjoy.

I too use the dip and swirl method. When the container is almost empty then its up to the finger get the last bit of cream on the brush.

Yep, the amount of cream and water really varies. Also, the consistency of the cream. Tubes should not be an issue. Just squeeze out the amount desired either into a bowel or directly onto the brush.

So I think we are really talking about creams in a tub. I used to just dip and swirl, but then got some Cyril Salter, whcih was both very soft and very efficient as in not needing much, so dip and swirl seemed both awkward and imprecise. So I started using a popsickle stick with it, and found the precision useful and it otherwise to be a good approach. For instances, most of the time I do not like excess water dripping into the cream. Although for some--I am using some SCS right not that is very firm, almost toward a shavinng soap, where it does not so much matter, or is even useful, to have some additional moisture.

But figuring out the right ratio of water to cream for the particular cream really is helpful to getting good lather.
