How to eliminate moldy, musty smell

I bought an old brush yesterday and it has a moldy, musty smell. How do I best address this?

Soak it first for about 10-30 minutes, then dump the water out, fill it up again and rub some dawn into the brush and swish it around, then add a little white vinegar to the soapy water, swish it and soak it for about 10 minutes, then rinse it out. Dry the brush and after it's totally dry, if the smell isn't gone, use dawn again, and maybe follow up with some shampoo and conditioner too for conditioning it.
