How many razors is enough?

Sitting here with 5 and experiencing out-of-this-world thoughts of having a razor for each day of the year -- the sad part is that I've yet to shave with any of them.

How do you deal with it? How have you convinced yourself that your current total is enough?

There is no such thing as too many razors. You usually end up having as many as you want and your budget can afford. I'm about 30-40 razors away from having one for every day of the year but I'm not sure I'll get there. I've found that I've started to opt for higher quality razors now. Instead of a bundle of $50-$100 straights, I find I'd much prefer one custom.

I'm collecting for my boys and grandchildren so there's no limit. I think the rule of "he who dies with the most razors wins" applies perfectly.

So far I have been quite good about resisting straight razor AD (safety razors is another story...)

I only have about six shave ready straights, and most of them are finished restoration projects, which were more about the restoration than acquiring a new razor for the rotation. I think I could happily live with just one good straight razor. The hard part would be choosing which one it was.

Didn't someone ask this question last week?? I think the answer was.... when you run out of room or run out of money you can stop getting more... or get a bigger house and a 3rd job to support your habit :tongue_sm

You might want to have another look on ebay I think I saw some there with your name on it

I have slowed right down on this, i started off buying any straight i saw, but soon realised i dont have enough time to restore them all, also i find that i seem to be sticking to just 3 straights at the moment, so i have sold a few off, i do enjoy cleaning and honing them up, and i have now decided to just get "named straights", i still have 21 to work on, plus 3 i am using, plus i sold about 5, so around 30 is my top total, which in the future i will drop to around 5 or 6 to work on before buying anymore, i dont collect straights, just buy them to do up, and keep a few to use, so i have no plans to have a load of straights around.

One razor is all you need. A second razor may be nice to have as a backup for when you need to hone the other razor or if the other razor gets damaged.

I have never understood RAD. Of all the things in shaving, the straight razor is the most fragile. They are easily broken and they can rust easily.

Sometimes I wonder if it is the person that owns the stuff, or if it is the stuff that owns the person.

However, as always, do what makes you happy.

I'm going to have to get SWMBO to read this thread. I'm a mere amateur compared to some of you gentlemen when it comes to ADs!
