How Does My Collection Rank on the Aggressiveness Scale?

I promised a number of people on this board, that I would measure the blade gap on my small collection of razors. I went to my local auto parts store, and bought a Feeler Gauge for $7.99.

I wanted to see how my razors would compare to the data that already exists in the Wiki:

Double Edge Razors Ranked By Aggressiveness

Here is how my razors stack up:

Razor Thousands of an Inch Millimeters

Muhle R89: .0295 .749
Gillette Tech: .0185 .470
Lord Tech w/ Merkur like head: .0265 .673
Ming Shi: .0265 .673
Slim @1: .017 .432
Slim @2: .019 .483
Slim @3: .021 .533
Slim @4: .023 .584
Slim @5: .025 .635
Slim @6: .027 .686
Slim @7: .029 .737
Slim @8:** .035 .889
Slim @9:** .038 .965
Schick Hydro-Magic Injector: .028 .711
Gem 1912: .0205 .521
Gem G-Bar .024 .610
Gem Bullet Tip Micromatic: .024 .610

-Blade gap calculated using a Feeler Gauge with 26 blades, and the same Shark Super Stainless/ Ted Pella blade.

**The Slim was following a definite pattern of being 2 thousands of an inch bigger at each adjustment interval until I reached adjustment 8. I measured the settings @ 8, and 9 twice, with the same results. The blade gap seems slightly different from side to side on this Slim as well.

This is a really cool post, thanks for sharing these results. Hoperfully this cn grow into a chart with more brands and types on the list. I would love to see that.

That chart already exists in the Wiki:

Double Edge Razors Ranked By Aggressiveness

I measured my razors for my own interest to see how my results would compare against those in the Wiki. :thumbup1:

Some of the Gems don't exist in the Wiki, and the Muhle doesn't current exist there either, so some of that info can certainly be added to the Wiki. :tongue_sm

Very interesting results. I have a slim and I will measure it, but it will have to wait

I will also measure some other Gillette's I have and post results.

I would have thought he 34C and 38C would have the same blade gao, but they don't.

Maybe I will bring feeler gauges to the meet up.

Nice post. This is one of many projects I'd like to complete some day to confirm or dispel my impressions of the relative aggressiveness of my collection, especially where non-Gillettes are in play. Well done.
