Same here with the Barbicide. From time to time I use Scrubbing bubbles and once in a blue moon I will touch up the head and doors with Flitz polish and place one drop of light oil down the pipe to keep it lubed lightly.
I never use barbicide anymore. Too scared it'll ruin the razor if I forget to bring it out. Scrubbing bubbles and some Maas every now and again is all for me. I do the scrubbing bubbles deal about once a week with all my razors and it takes care of the hard water marks and gunk buildup.
I just run it under hot water and wipe off. I then dip it in rubbing alcohol and let it dry.If it begins to look bad then I spray some Scrubbing Bubbles on it and clean with a soft tooth brush.
Just an old toothbrush and dish soap as needed. I wipe down all the parts of my razor and pat the blade dry after every use, with rare exception. We always have scrubbing bubbles around, but I usually only use that on a newly acquired razor or one that I am sending to someone else.
I do need to get some Maas or something to give a bit of polish to my vintage nickel Gillette's. Do you just get it at Wally World or do I need to go to Home Depot or Ace Hardware?
With lacquered and gold plated Gillette NEWS I am conservative to prevent damage. I use Dawn and a toothbrush. A PROLONGED soak in HOT water can dull the lacquer so be careful. Daily use and rinsing razor in hot water is okay.
Take apart after every use, (Unless it's my Fat Boy...(;-), clean with soft toothbrush and mild soap, rinse and towel dry. Out of rotation with blades installed I run a Q-tip with alcohol to nullify any bacteria present.
After every use I rinse with hot tap water, shake and blow dry and spray it with alcohol with a little mineral oil (ballistol) mixed in (shake well before use). This way the razor will dry fast and it leaves an oily film that protects and lubricates the razor and blade.
Soap scum and calcium doesn't stick to it this way and when the razor needs some cleaning a little dish soap and a toothbrush is all that's needed.
The threads on a 3piece razor get a little vaseline petroleum jelly to protect them from corrosion and to lubricate.
This. Except in my case it might be months. If I get soap build up I might take some Scrubbing bubbles to it.
Anything more is - in my opnion - overkill and increases wear and tear.
One time disinfecting of a vintage/previously used razor - autoclave at work.
Routine cleaning - rinse in water. If I need to remove soap scum/etc, Scrubbing Bubbles (without bleach/lactic acid!) and then a soft toothbrush or dish soap. As I have removed plating with toothpaste, I won't use that on anything plated.
Unplated razors with tarnish - have Flitz and Maas in lavender.
I have a Super Adjustable and once a month or two I do the following:
1. Boil some water
2. Put a drop or two of dish washing soap in a bowl
3. Pour water into the bowl and place the razor, doors open, into the water and let it soak for about 30 minutes.
4. Take the razor out and use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the surfaces of the razor to remove any soap buildup. Dip the head of the toothbrush into the soapy water during the scrubbing.
5. When done, rinse under warm water.
6. Gently dry with a terry or paper towel.
