How do companies sterilize their brushes/hair?

Most brush makers do not sterilize the brushes. I believe Simpsons do sterilize them. If you are referring to barbers. I'd read of a barbershop that sterilize with Barbicide. The best cleanest sterilization process that I know of, autoclaving, cannot be done on brushes. The autoclave will practically melt the glue that's holding the brush together.

The $10 defective handle brush I got from Ebay assured me it was sterilized before delivery. Why all companies wouldn't sterilize their brushes is beyond my comprehension.

I don't trust that even if it says sterilized. Everything gets a dunk in the barbicide before it hits the face or hone. I think disinfect is a better word. Sterilization would mean an autoclave or vigorous boiling or steam.

I give a quick wash to all my new brushes. I know some don't. But really do you think they are sending out infected brushes?

Lathering will clean the brush, unless you got some hardcore germs and viruses on your brush. Remember, shaving soap is still soap. You are practically cleaning your brush every time you shave.

A note about autoclaves though. The place where I work uses plenty of autoclaves. It is the best sterilization method possible, and is used on even surgical equipment. The thing is that the autoclave machines use so much heat and pressure, it will definitely destroy any brush. The heat alone will kill the hairs and melt the glue.

I don't think they want to sell infected brushes. You never know. Somehow the lead got into the kids toys, and there are food recalls occasionally. Why take a chance? JMO. I have barbicide for this reason, so why not use it?

There are certainly other sterilization methods such as gamma radiation. I think this method is commonly used on many different products from band aids (probably) to frozen foods. It is also very cheap when done on large loads.
