What's new

Houston we have a problem...

Hello. My name is Patrick and I am a DE-aholic. Seriously, I've only been doing this for about two weeks and I've already purchased from three different vendors and bought some gear on the B/S/T. This is why I do not drink or gamble. It seems I may have some sort of pre-disposition to addictive behaviors. The good part (for me, bad for my wallet and wife) is that I have absolutely no buyer's remorse whatsoever. I very rarely shop online and when I do I always think about the purchase for several days before buying. That's not the case with this hobby. I guess, in the grand scheme of things, there are much worse things to be addicted to.

Having been at this for a year, I can tell you it probably isn't going to get any better. Might slow down as you run through the list of stuff to try, but that list never really seems to end. Good luck! :biggrin1:

I, as well as pretty much all of us here have experienced the same thing. After my two boys started rolling their eyes everytime a shaving related product was delivered to the house I kind of realized the insanity. And I wasn't even that bad! Honestly, it gets a little insane around here. I am proud to say it has now been 278 days (approximately) since I have bought a shaving related item. :001_smile

We start with RAD, then SBAD, maybe a taste for different blades, different creams/soaps, then straights? it's really bad. I'm being half serious......it can get out of hand. But it's fun.

You, kind sir, need stay away from straights!

If the toggle you are pining away for gives you sticker shock, straights will be pure torture...LOL

things slow down a bit when you start to have favorites and your experience has tendencies over other things, that of course is when you find the nib or the bwon leaf section of the forums,... lol you will find no sympathy on this site my friend, only enablers !

I started with soap AD, then safety razor AD, shaving cream AD, and now it's full-blown shaving brush AD. It's been a rough year on the wallet.

Your last line says it all. I always tell my girl that collecting watches and razors is far better than spending it on vices. And what woman doesn't appreciate a smooth face and great scent?

Brush AD is a bad one to catch, lol i stay away from that side of the forums for just that reason ! best of luck to you James hope you get thru this

There's a specific reason why I have never sat down and added up all that I spend on this wonderful stuff.

"I'm getting into wet shaving because it's cheaper than using cartridges!" :biggrin1:

You are correct sir! I have a friend who is addicted to ordering call-girls off the internet...he's burning the candle from both ends, literally.

I've got a small collection of vintage razors. Most of them I've put a bit of elbow grease and metal polish into and are in better shape than when I first got ahold of them. Vintage razors hold their value or may even increase, especially if you find a hidden gem - of which I've found a couple. I'm sure that if I were ever in dire financial straights that I could let go of a few of these and come out ahead of what I originally invested. So that isn't so bad. Other shaving related acquisition disorders won't do you any favors. Good luck getting your money back on soaps, creams, brushes, etc. Even new and nicely maintained DE razors won't fetch probably half of what you originally paid. It's a slippery slope my friend.

im the same way about getting addicted to things farely easy. i do drink beer though but no in excess. started playing WOW that was a few years of none stop playing. as i was getting tired of playing that, the wet shaving world came knocking on my door. it has slowed down (i think) i used to hit every antique store in a 200 mile radius now i just buy all of my razors from ebay lol. im waiting on 4 different packages as we speak. dont worry SGT, for most people it will start to slow down after a while. i think the only reason it slows down is because it starts getting to a point that u have most of the things offered to the wet shaving world lol.

Hi Patrick: I see no problem at all. I am also enjoying and having fun with this hobby. So... what's your next purchase?:biggrin1:
