I'm planning on hanging a horseshoe over our door. Doing some searching, it appears there are two schools of thought out there. Which have you heard?

I've always heard you hang it open end up, to hold the luck in.
Never understood the rabbits foot though. Doesn't seem to work out well for the little bunny, and it's got 4!

With casual disregard as to the exact results, paying attention to only the broadest of intentions. Oddly enough, one throws a hand grenade in about the same fashion.

Hey, it was late, and the non sequitur just spilled out, as it were. Lately I've been getting more than sufficient exercise just pushing my luck.
I was once told by a crusty master carpenter with whom I briefly apprenticed: "Close enough only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades."
I've always heard that it goes open end up.
But I don't think there's any rule preventing you from mounting 2 of them, one pointed up, one pointed down.
Better yet, since a horse has 4 hooves, put 2 over the front door, and 2 over the back door. Cover all your bases.

I have never seen a shoe hanging that pointed down, nor have I heard that it pours luck into your home.
Historically, hanging a horseshoe points down is the exclusive purview of farriers/blacksmiths....doing so by anyone else is frowned-upon and generally considered bad luck.
