Horsehair brush recommendation

I'm looking for a horsehair brush to use for face lathering with cream and I would like to spend $30 or a little more on it. I couldn't find a lot of information, so I'm hoping I can get some recommendations.

Thanks for any help.

Vie-long as recommended by John is the way to go. I've used one and it was a fun brush for sure...quality on these vie-longs is top-notch.

I've never used one, but based on looks alone I'd go for the Vie Long Zurito 13061. It's a beauty IMO and right where you want to be for price.

All the vie-longs are well-priced...I've personally handled the horse-hair (red/white acrylic handle) and the olive-wood 2-banded badger and they are both lovely little brushes with good craftsmanship.

I got a Vie-Long from bullgooseshaving a few weeks ago and had great service. They had a well laid out site with knot diameters and lofts in the descriptions. Also, they have non-dyed hair options. I like mine a lot; it's breaking in very nicely.

Cheers!

Vie-Long 13061. Gorgeous handle, beautiful horse hair brush. I think they are $32 at Bullgoose Shaving. Well worth it!

The cheapie No. 6 brush from Bestshave.net may be an inexpensive way to try horse hair.
+1 on that. This is truly a great brush for it's price. Gets better with every shave.

Although there is talk this could be a boar brush. I really can't tell, I have no other boar or horse hair to compare too.

Be careful when buying horse. There are a LOT of different grades depending on how much mane or tail hair is used in the blend (or if it is pure)

There is a thread on here explaining all of the different horse hair brush types and their characteristics.

I'll see if I can dig it up and post a link to it (might take a while as the search function on vBulletin blows so I will have to use google site search to find it)

EDIT: wasn't that bad to find

I have tried several horse hair brushes of different types and I found them good to lather with hard soaps in bowl, but not good for facelathering with circular motions.

I think that boar brushes are better and cheaper for facelathering in general.

Cheers!

Vie-long is the maker that comes up most often when people talk about horse hair. I personally have never used one here is a like to one of our sponsors. Top-notch service from Bullgoose I would get the butterscotch beehive :) http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/vishbr.html
I have the Vie-Long Ivory Beehive in Natural Horse; this one but with a prettier handle :biggrin1: :

Before using this (and I'm still very new at the brush and soap thing) I used the Vulfix 404. Since picking this one up in the B/S/T I have not touched the Vulfix except to move it out of the way.

I just ordered 13061 this morning. Already have the 12705 which is very reasonably priced and performs well with soaps.

For me the idea that no animal is killed to make the product is very appealing. Plus the horse is my second favorite animal right after the elephant.:biggrin1:

Steve,
I have the BGS 2012 LE Beehive in Ivory and Butterscotch. The Ivory has the dyed hair and the Butterscotch has the natural. There's no telling the difference between the two in performance, but I just prefer the natural hair intellectually and so the Ivory brush gets no love. It's a sad state of affairs.

If you're willing to give the Ivory brush a good home and raise it according to B&B's values, then consider it a PIF from a member who appreciates your service to the country. I think you'll love the brush and it certainly needs the attention. If that sounds good to you, spend your 30 bucks elsewhere and drop me a PM with your address. I'll get it into the mail soon.
