Hoffritz Slant.It's Beautiful

I have been looking for a slant for a while to go in my Hoffritz collection. I have a few straights and quit a few brushes in my collection. My wtb was answered by a very nice member here and offered me this one. I cleaned it up this morning at work with some Flitz and I was VERY surprised at the results. Other than a water spot on the head it's almost perfect. I was thinking about getting replated before I cleaned it up, but that's out the window now. I shaved with it for the first time last night and I was very surprised at the shave I got from it. It is a very close shave with only one pass. For sure my favorite razor now. I almost don't want to use it because its so pretty.

Sweet!! Those clean up nice..Just got one myself and 2 passes is it...done. Thinking about just going to a 3 razor rotation and selling the rest because of this razor. It is amazing! Only downside the shaving ritual is over so quickly..
Great score!!

Nice photos!

I hate to say this, but you kind of took the original finish off.
It's your razor. So, I'm not being critical. I'm just trying to offer some constructive observations.

The older vintage German razors in that configuration have a white enamel finish on the knurling and knob. The rest of the handle is usually silvered and chrome. So, it looks tarnished after so many years in your bottom photo. The heads are usually not silvered like that area of tarnish you could see at the top neck of the handle.

The white color is most probably paint originally. It was there by the looks of your bottom photo. By the looks of your finished polish job- it's gone now.

You shined her up real pretty! I just cringed a little when I got to the 'before' picture and saw where you started.

Those razors are built to last. Enjoy it! You'll be able to shave with it for many years to come as long as you take care of it.

I've had two, and have loved them both. I gave one to my firlfriend's son and traded the other one. I did buy that one back. I think they provide one of the best shaves attainable. Of course as with all else YMMV.

Yep it had to white enamel on it but had some sort of laquer on it that did not look very good. So I got rid of it all and quit a few of the grooves on the knob had the white enamel gone and it didn't look very good. Thanks you for the info on it though.

I agree about providing the best shaves there is. It is very close to the shaves I get from my straights.

I've got a few Hoffritz slants in varying degrees of finish. yours did clean up nice and shiny. I had made the same mistake when cleaning one of mine and also removed what I thought was white paint. oh well, they still look magnificent!

my regular HS shaver is a beater with a fully brassed handle and a shiny head with a few flea bites in the cap - it still shaves like a brand new one!

How does it compare the the Merkur 37C? More slanty, judging from the pictures? Same weight?

I'm not real sure. This is the only slant I have ever used. But I'm sure someone here has or has used both that could tell you.
