HIGHEST VOLTAGE COFFEES

These coffees remind me of highly caffeinated energy drinks. It’s a huge market, but not something I enjoy. Cousins to atomic wings and super hoppy IPA beers. Extremes in food or drink don’t appeal to me. If it affects me two hours after I eat or drink it then I will pass.

I agree with you on all counts. I enjoy hot sauces and various styles of beer, but at some point it becomes a stunt or challenge more than enjoyment. It’s a bit different with the energy drinks and these coffees since people are presumably seeking the caffeine boost more than performing some kind of challenge - at least I hope so. Some of the products mentioned in the linked article are quite extreme and contain much more caffeine than normal energy drinks. I have a 17 year old that will be heading off to college next fall. I’ve had to be vigilant for years to keep him away from energy drinks, but he does drink coffee and soft drinks that contain caffeine in moderation. I’m going to make it a point to educate him about these supercharged coffees now. Caffeine overdoses are no joke.

Coffee can be great if it’s brewed right.

My buddy had Coffee & Gift shop, he was OCD about his Coffee.

Machine had to be clean.

Beans were ground great for each batch.

Weight of Beans had to be right before grinding.

Water had to be at right tempeture.

Bottom line was my buddies Coffee was always.🏆

What's OCD this? That's my normal daily coffee routine. Any other way wouldn't even occur to me.

Me either. I’m not particularly caffeine sensitive, but I’ve overdone it before and it’s quite unpleasant. The products at the top of that list are extreme and there’s no way they taste good. I feel for anyone that needs caffeine doses like that to get by.
A small cup every other day in the morning for me . The odd days it's tea. Caffeine is not pleasant for old prostate glands or insomniacs!

And I have seen adults give their children cans of RED BULL to " enjoy " ......

California is saturated with these tiny hyper caffeinated coffee " drive throughs " .. They sell drinks so loaded with caffeine that it's a quick substitute for a meth high. I have seen 20 cars in line to get the legal high and it's that way all day long .

Probably before school and a teacher has to deal with it. I stopped at one particular gas station in the morning and the construction crews were always buying energy drinks. As the years went by the area allocated to soft drinks flipped. The energy drink section was relatively small and soft drinks dominated. Now it’s just the opposite. Coffee even seems less popular in some areas. I guess it’s easier to buy 3 cans of Red Bull or Monster and throw it in the truck

I don’t remember if I tried the first one, but the death wish and voltage tasted and smelled like the water you used to boil and scrape when something burned on a ss pan.

I think all the ones I tried tasted horrible also. A coworker drank them and he let me try one, I immediately poured it out. I recall thinking that it was like paying to drink tramp oil.

Most of these "super caffeine/ worlds strongest" coffees are Robusta beans instead of Arabica. Usually from Vietnam or Brazil. Robusta is NOT quality coffee (although some is used in quality espresso blends)

It does have about twice the amount of caffeine as Arabica, but if you roast and brew for maximum caffeine, there is only so much you can actually get into the coffee. Obviously using more ground coffee and/or less water will have more caffeine in the final cup. But most of this is all marketing hype, since these are typically very darkly roasted, and that actually drives off caffeine. A lightly roasted bean has the most caffeine, more than dark roast. But people think since its dark and "strong" it must have more caffeine. Nope, not necessarily.

In some of these LIVE police action shows I've seen 20oz. cans of Red Bull in the center console .... this looks pretty dangerous to me .... 200mg of caffeine , and if they drink 2 cans per shift I'm thinking it would be equivalent to a good dose of Benzedrine ...

I was with my cousin at a Barnes & Noble coffee shop once, where they made him sign a waiver he got so many shots of espresso. One of those things just makes me shake my head.

I had a friend years ago who was a commercial coffee sales guy. One of his regular jobs was installing automated espresso machines in restaurants, then consulting with the owners to achieve their very own unique blend. So he was a plumber and electrician, and as he always joked, a masochist. :)

Deriving a blend took a lot of tasting, and of course there was training the employees to use the machine, which meant more tasting. After he installed two machines in a very popular drive-through location, I happened to run into him on the street.

"Hey, how's it goin'?"

"My cheeks are numb, my eyeballs are on fire and I can't feel my feet. My heart rate is supersonic. I can't write. But I'm OK."

Some places I have gotten coffee on the road have some sort of super-duper coffee on offer. I've tasted it. The ones I like are the ones that taste like putting your cup under the spout of a brewer when it's just getting going. Strong, very coffee flavour. I like that and sip carefully. :) Nuclear waste? Not on my watch.
