What's new

Hero 612

I picked up a 3 pack of hero 612 pens and they arrived today. I like my 616s and have given all but one away to kids and others, so I thought I'd get some more. The 612s seem to be similar to the 616s, but with a gold cap and matching end piece on the barrel. The auction listed them as vintage, but the nibs and sacs seem to be identical to the 616 pens. The caps fit tighter, and I think they look a bit nicer.

I flushed one out, and loaded it with diamine denim ink. It writes smooth, and with a fine tip it flows nice, and is giving me no problems so far. I know some of you hate the 616s, but I've found them to be terrific little carrying pens, and are working great right out of the box. I'll have to give a follow up after I've used them a while, but so far they look like they will be great. Especially for $2.30 each. (BTW, I just saw a 6 pack from the same vendor for 9.90, so each one is only $1.65. I might have to get some more. )

And by "some of you" you meant "youse" and all that was directed at BrianW, right? Besides the leaking and nib/hood alignment issues, I think they are decent pens for the price.

Maybe I don't have the experienced eye, but the 612s and 616s have all looked aligned to me. And I make a point not to shake them, so those issues don't really bother me.
The kids have started taking them to school, and they love having their choice of ink colors. My 12 year old daughter has settled on tanzanite, and my 15 year old likes turquiose/midway blue. It's nice getting them started with FPs, and not having to worry about getting broken or lost. I use them as daily carry pens for the same reason. The hero pens are perfect for those uses, and they write well, expecially considering the price.

Great deal gmgaj, glad your happy with them at that price it makes life very simple and good to know the kids love them too

One seller has 3 for $9.90 and then 3 for $6.90 also. Im tempted myself.

The 6 for $9.90 with free shipping is a great price, IMO. It's the same vendor I used (yespen). I also got a pilot 78G with a broad nib in today. I love the italic style it gives. Also a couple of old sheaffer school pens.

Those school pens are nice once you eye dropper them.

I have a Jinhao X450 that just come in this week and I find nothing wrong with it. I dont know how they do it for the price they charge but im hearing good things about most of the Chinese pens.

Agree, I am liking them as well, dismantling them and reassembling them is supposed to cure the alignment and leaking issues,
one of these weekends I will get working on that, but they do write nice right out of the box.
I think most modern pens would write nice.
