Henckels Razors

Could someone explain the differences between the various vintage Henckels that are out there? Are there some production types (e.g. Twin Works, Friodor, etc.) that are considered to more desirable or better shavers than others?

Thanks

I have a 5/8 carbon steel henckels and a vintage 6/8 friodur. The friodur refers to henckels ice-hardening process for stainless steel. Both are superlative shavers. I have no experience with the NOS / reground friodurs that are plentiful these days.

Given that they can be had on eBay for under $20, it doesn't really matter.

I have 7 different vintage Henckels razors and all hone to a nice edge and hold that edge quite well.

So with such a low price point, buy a few and see which one you like.

As with anything in wet shaving, YMMV. So what works for me may not work for you and vice versa.

I'm in do you have a link so I can check'em out for myself?

OP I do apologize that I didn't answer your question, but $20 Henckel is awesome news.

Sorry, cannot post a link. It is against the TOS of B&B

You will see NOS Friodurs that go for $100 to $200 but older Henckels can be had for under $20. Just watch eBay and keep your eyes open.

Yes they will need honing and usually polishing to get surface blemishes off, but they can be had.

All 7 of mine we closer to $12 when purchased. $15 with shipping.

I just had a look and saw at least 5 that fit the above description and all were in decent shape with no hone wear, chips or cracks with solid scales.

I got one, twins on it, '66 good and smooth shaver. Bummer the blade is a bit shorter but remains a fantastic shaver!

I've had a vintage Henckels for years and just found it again in a drawer. I don't know the exact model, but I think it was around $15 in a junk store eight or nine years ago. Nicely made razor.

Would any of you be kind enough to recommend someone to hone it? I'd like to have someone give it a good sorting so I can use it on weekends and whenever I have a bit of free time to shave.

My bad not trying to get myself or anyone else in any trouble.

Hey, I was lucky I caught myself.

I had already copied and pasted the links in my reply before remembering I wasn't supposed to post a live auction link.

Was this >---< close to breaking the rules myself LOL

Send a PM to LarryAndro here. His prices are reasonable and he makes a fabulous edge. You can also go to his website, www.whippeddog.com
