"HELP"My Fatty is misbehaving

:blink::thumbdown.....When I got this Fat Boy from a member here the butterflies would not open or close completely when they were at the closing end.

After thoroughly cleaning in near boiling soap water and slightly lubricating the interiors the butterflies gave in although I had to twist the knob with extra force to close or open the butterflies, specifically just before the closed position

After using the fatty 5 or 6 times, now the knob just rotates and the butterflies dont open at all.

:blink:What is the problem? :huh:Why is Fatty misbehaving:huh:........someone please tell me what happened and how should I set it right

Gary has some great links on how to repair a naughty FB. I'm sure he will be along shortly to point you in the right direction.

Just a quick heads up, you do realize that there is normally a final quarter turn which does have some resistance when opening and closing the adjustable?

If an earlier year you can take it apart & see if it is just gummed up or has the shaft broken

You can do that for any year. The earlier is just easier. Later models, including slims can be taken apart as well - you just have to re-crimp the little doodad on the end to make it stick together. Other posts suggest a needle nose to do this, but I've found them to be rather large for the job. I use two small screwdrivers.

It doesn't sound good Vijay. What year is it? If an earlier year you can take it apart & see if it is just gummed up or has the shaft broken, which I hope isn't true. See http://vintagesaws.com/fatboy/fatboy.html has instructions for dis-assembly. This post also has some information which may be helpful http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=24435&highlight=closing

Good luck with it

This is the repairable type

Tried everything in my capacity........getting nowhere really

Can't understand what enables the twistknob to stop rotating at both ends on opening and closing the butterflies.
What kind of stopper is fitted into the mechanism and where is it located?

Anyone please come forward to repair my Fatty. I will send it over at my cost if need be........ANYONE LISTENING??

PLEASE!!!!!

If you're not going to take it apart yourself using the takedown instructions (link posted above) I would send a PM to Cooncatbob and ask him to take a look at it.

Now that would be a great help my friend.......do that please

And Thanks

I had a problem with a Super Adjustable that sounds similar to what you describe, and it turned out that the guard bar on one side was slightly bent. Once I very very gently and carefully bent it back out with a flat head screwdriver, it was good to go. Mine never got stuck in the closed position....but it still might be something to check.

Thanks for the links, garyg. I was wondering how to clean my razors in order to get them to "like new condition." Now I know and knowing is half the battle.
