What's new

Help me Xmas shop.

I haven't bought any gifts yet and I have no clue what to buy. So, this year is just like every other year. Perhaps you gentleman could help me avoid a mad frenzy next week when Christmas is only a few days away and i still have no clue what to buy. Please help me with some gift ideas.

For under $100 (each, although good gifts for less is better), I need gifts for Mother, Mom in law, Dad in law.

Scarves, Gloves if you can guess the size, Car safety kit, gift card if you get desperate, bottle of wine, fancy cork screw for a wine lover, porcelain figurine, desk toys, Juggling balls, DVD of a favourite movie.

Accessories for what they enjoy. . . a new fishing lure, duck call, ski wax.

Good luck and Merry Christmas.

If Dad-in-law is a drinker a nice set of 4 single malt scotch glasses can be had from William Sonoma for less than $100...shipping included.

Gift cards! Greatest invention of the 20th century. Safeway carries cards from many other stores. Home Depot gift cards always go over well. From an Amazon card they can buy darn near anything online. From Amazon my girlfriend can get that perfume I can't find at the mall, or whatever she wants. One caveat: some of the generic prepaid debit cards have high fees; read the fine print on the back. I don't think you need to show the family you endured the pain of going to the mall and they will prefer picking their own stuff anyway.

HUGE +1

I cannot stress this enough. Better to let them pick something than to get something they will never use.

I'm a dad and granddad and no one knows what to get for me either. I keep a folder on the computer with links to what I'd like for birthdays, Christmas, etc, in the $10-$50 range. If any family member needs an idea, they get my wife to check the list. Amazon gift cards are always welcome, since I'm a prime member there.

My wife has 5 brothers and sisters. Every year her mother pulls names out the hat so each brother/sister only has to buy for one sibling and spouse. All the brothers and sisters then chip in for one large gift for the mom. This is a big help for those siblings on a tight budget.

Do you have a "World Market" near you? I always seem to find unique stuff in there. Wine, beer, food, bath and kitchen stuff, toys, home nik-naks...but not the ordinary stuff. I like the beer samplers and cook books. Neat old school stuff for kids too. (I don't work there or own stock, I promise...just a neat store).

My wife and I got a gift that was one of the best ever, and only cost the giver about 50 bucks. It was a small gift bag that had movie tickets, a dinner gift card, and babysitting services. Sounds like you can do this for all four couples. Just a thought.

my wife and I were thinking of doing something like this for her aunt and uncle. we'd buy a picnic basket and fill it with a bottle of wine, some cheese/crackers, a candle, a Sinatra cd and maybe a few other goodies.
