Help me find an ASB sans parabens and aluminum

In a previous thread I received great recommendations for a splash with a scent that would not be overwhelming to my dear wife's nose. Now I realize that what I really want is more of a balm. However, I am having trouble finding a good one that does not have parabens or aluminum. I really like my Proraso liquid cream, but it has both aluminum and parabens. Ideally, I would like a balm to be as emollient and moisturizing as possible, perhaps even thicker than my Proraso. And a manly scent would be a bonus, like bay rum or sandalwood, but I would settle for menthol or something like that--as long as it isn't too strong for my dear wife. What should I try?

Sorry no one has replied. I have nothing for you to suggest other than contact some of our vendors and seek their advice.
Good luck in your search.

Have you looked into the RazoRock balms? I know they are paraben free, unsure about aluminum. Check out italianbarber.com for a full selection.

I have experience with the Cumba Cheech and enjoyed its performance. The Lime is on the shopping list.

Queen Charlotte Soaps balms and wax from Razorock (it's a balm) come to mind as all natural and manly smelling. You should also try W.M. Neumann's. Can't lose with any of these.

Go to Walmart or similar store and buy: Alcohol, Glycerin, Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera Gel. Mix. Add a few drops of your favorite EO if you want a scent. Voila an AS without parabens or aluminum.

p.s. sounds like it might be expensive but you can you can buy a relatively big bottle of each of those for not very much at all and wind up with enough AS to last for months on end.

jwilcock, I like that idea, except I expect getting a balm right would be harder than getting a lotion right. I like the look of the Queen Charlotte products, but it's hard to justify $10 for just 1 ounce. The Saint Charles or Razorock might be the better course for me. The Razorock ingredients, however, look like a chemistry set--lots of stuff I don't recognize. Thanks for the ideas, gents!

If you are looking for a balm without aluminum or parabens with a bay rum scent, Gilbert Henry would be a good choice. Here is the ingredient list:

Organic Aloe juice, Organic Coconut oil, Emulsifying wax, Vegetable glycerin, Witch Hazel,, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Palm Stearic Acid, Jojoba oil, Lecihin, Xanthan Gum, Black Willowbark extract, Neem oil, Rosemary Oleoresin, Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric acid, Blend of West Indies Bay (Pimenta Racemosa), and other essential oils

You can also get a trial size to sample as well. If you were in the market for a splash, well, then you'd be getting into some good stuff like Captain's Choice and Krampert's Finest.

Jpakstis, you won me over. I just ordered some Gilbert Henry. The "about us" page did it for me -- sounded like myself. So, I will post back once I try it. Cheers!

Grab your self a bottle of Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm, add a dash of your favorite cologne or Captain's Choice Bay Rum. Shake Well before use and enjoy.

I've never heard of a balm using aluminum. Musgo Real balm doesn't have any parabens. It smells great too.

Proraso has aluminum starch octenylsuccinate. I have no idea what that is, but ever since I read that the brains of people with Alzheimer's have higher levels of aluminum, I have been wary. I would love to be shown that it isn't a problem, so if you know of any studies, let me know.
By the way, I got my gilbert henry order today, and hoo-wee! What a powerful scent. My wife just keeps saying I smell like Christmas, which I cannot tell whether is good or bad. Definitely clovy. Has a great texture. Can't wait to try it after a shave. Hopefully the scent will dissipate over the course of the morning.

Studies are inconclusive. Aluminum has been implicated in any number of conditions including breast cancer, but you are not going to draw enough through your skin to cause issues.
The main "boogey man" has always been the Aluminum Chlorohydrate used antiperspirants.
