Help me choose an ink for my first pen.Parker super 21

View attachment 359455

Greetings!

I am need of your help as I recently bought my first pen ...well my first pen that cost more than 3 dollars. I came across this Parker super 21 at an antique store and was drawn to it. The price was 35 dollars, hopefully this was a reasonable price. My favorite color is grey and I was hoping to get your input on a nice grey ink. I would like it to be fairly quick drying ink as my work often consists of me writing something on a clipboard and the closing the cover fairly soon after. I would like the color to be a nice dark grey like the pen...maybe a little darker. Heck, you might be able to refer me to a brighter grey that ends up seducing me.

Thanks!

Apologies for blurry cell phone pic

Iroshizuku Kiri-Same is in the same tonal range as #2 pencil and, thanks to Andy's diligent testing, appears to be relatively water-resistant. I'm afraid that's the extent of my gray experience.

That's a nice-looking Parker. If everything's in good working shape on it, it sounds like a decent deal to me. I don't own any real "bargain" pens, so I guess to me anything less than $50 for a pen that's functional and looks great seems like a pretty good deal. Especially when you add in the vintage coolness factor. You can get new pens far cheaper, but they won't have the character of that Parker. You can also spend several hundred more and not get a pen that you'll enjoy more. I hope it serves you well.

Thanks for your replies! I am stoked to ink this up and give it a try. I am also a bit worried about developing another AD:blink:

What about Noodler's 5o'Clock Shadow? It's got some green in it but isn't that a nice grey? I'm not really a fan of the grey inks but that one has always stuck out in my mind as one I wouldn't mind trying one day.

Cheers,

M.

I recently got a Parker 21 and it writes beautifully with Noodlers Bulletproof black. I would assume that a grey from Noodler's would work just as well.

Mine seems to be a fine nib and is a very smooth writer. Great pen. I think you will be happy with it.

Bwaahahahaha...*cough*...hahahaha.

Congrats, and you're welcome. I really like the proportions of that 21. I'm going to have to step up my search efforts. See, sometimes the enablee becomes the enabler.

You were right, I really enjoy the performance of this pen as well
