Help a newbie

Hey y'all I am new here and after many straight razor shaves at the barber and a couple of other straight razor experiences I am ready to take the plunge. I have read lots on the forum and I feel like I have gained a bunch of knowledge but I know I still have tons to learn :001_smile I know that a lot of y'all reccomend getting your first blade from B/S/T or the like but there are two Dovo's that I am looking at at SRD. The first is the Best Quality 5/8 and the second is the Silver Steel Ebony 5/8. I would like to hear thoughts and advice or if anyone knows of any comparable knives in that price range ($80 - $115) that are readily available.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I think you could get a much cheaper straight from the Buy/Sell/Trade section of this forum. Make sure it's shave-ready. You will then need a strop and you will be good to go!

The two you are looking at are great shavers, and SRD is a great place to buy. The typical recommendation to start with a less expensive blade is mostly because there is a good chance you may damage your first razor or might decide that straight razor shaving is not for you. In either of these cases, a smaller initial investment means less risk. But, prices are part of personal preference, so that is up to you. You'll find that nearly everything with regards to straight razors comes down to personal preference, actually.
