Help a caveman out!

I'm just curious as to what the other hairy guys on this forum do to take care of body hair. For myself, I have fairly thick chest hair that has to be trimmed to keep away the chewbacca look. Waxing is out of the question as it is too thick and would also be very pricey to keep up with. I do wax my back about every 6 weeks and shave my shoulders.

The problem I'm having though is that even with trimming, I get ingrown hairs on my chest. These aren't small either, but rather are very large and red and pretty disgusting when they finally pop. I am only getting these on my clavicle area strangely and near the belt line. The belt line makes sense as rubbing of pants would irritate any ingrowns, but I don't understand why I get them on the clavicle. Perhaps because the hairs are right up against a bone and they get cut closer?

Anyways, I was curious about trying different trimmers. Has anyone tried the bodygroomer by Phillips? I think part of my problem is that the trimmer I have cuts real close - basically a "1" setting is my only option.

As for my shoulders, I also get ingrowns from shaving them. Has any man tried using an epilator on their body hair. Does it work? Any problems with ingrowns? I rarely get ingrowns on my face so I don't understand why I get them on my shoulders every time in different spots. I do use old razors to shave my shoulders - the ones i've used on my face for about 6 or 7 shaves. Could these somehow be introducing bacteria?

Anyways I would like any help as I'm tired explaining these bumps to potential gf's and summer is coming up too!

The phillips body groomer only has a option of pretty short setting, but it may be ok for you. However if you don't like that, try getting a hair cutting trimmer that will give you a slightly longer setting than the phillips does (Wahls?). That way you wont get the ingrowns but will be able to keep your body hair trimmed and a bit more neat, if thats what you are trying to do.

+1 for the Phillips Body Groom - but only if you're going for a little longer hair. If you want it shaved all the way down you might have finally found a use for the disposable razors you were about to throw away. I leave my chest hair a little longer. I'm not trying to look like a teenager - just trying to keep it under control.

I don't shave my chest but I use clippers and use the next to lowest setting. I don't want to loose all my chest hair but want it to be presentable and look well groomed since I go to the beach often. I think a little chest hair look better than completely shaved.

Just Man-up. let it grow.

You dont want to end up like this:

I use hair clippers (on a no.4 setting, thats just long enough to look good without being a pain to manage) at the moment to trim all over otherwise it's just unmanageable....... but I do because "I'm worth it", I heard good things about the philips bodygroom on my thread about body hair.... I'm just waiting as I have it that a new one is out soon..... not sure if this is true, but it can't hurt to wait and see... :D
