What's new

Hello Newbie to DE Razors

Well I have been reading this site for awhile and finally yesterday signed up. I will admit I bought a DE razor because I think the price of the Mach 3 blades I was using was insane.

I bought 2 Vintage Gillette Super Speed Razors on Ebay for about $10 and a Mini Gillette one. I got some blades from a local pharmacy then realized they are 1000 times cheaper on ebay as well. I bought in bulk, I buy everything in bulk that doesnt have an expiry date on it.

Then this weekend on my way to syracuse I picked up 3 more vintages Razors for $15 one is a US Army Issue one, a 58 Gillette SS, and the other I think its a late 30's Tech one according to the information in the wiki thing I read the other night.

I have to say I have no idea why the masses by regular razors since I started shaving with 50 year old razors. They shave great, they are 100 times cheaper and well there alot of fun.

So in the span of a month I own 6 DE razors all Gillettes and all my friends think I'm crazy with exception to one. Who realized that I'm shaving on the cheap while hes making Gillette rich lol..

I must say I have to thank all the people on here for the great information on cleaning, care and fun stories I have read and I have been reading this side for about 2 months now. Its what helped me find a decent one on ebay for under $20.

I now shave with a Gillette Blue handled one and I like the shorty one I got also.

I also have to laugh, all my friends told me I would get all cut up, and there no good, and well thats a load of crap. I dont get cut up, in fact I think I get cut up more with the 3 blade ones I used to use. And occasionally I get a tiny cut but thats shaving. I just laugh...

I also like the fact that I got a razor that probably was used for 20 years by someone, and now I'm giving it new life. Instead of just tossing it. I'm a believer in quality goods that should be made to last a lifetime not 2 weeks or 3 months then buy another one... Guess I'm not Capitalism friendly lol...

I want a whole bunch just for fun factor, to make shaving fun...

glad to hear you're enjoying your new hobby. it certainly does take a load off the wallet, unless of course you get a severe case of RAD (which it looks like you're starting to get). but on the whole, you'll save a lot more money and get more enjoyment out of it when compared to cartridge razors. now you'll just have to try out the many other shaving related goodies out there (soaps, creams, brushes, etc) and go crazy

Welcome to B&B! I have always appreciated well made vintage items. I collect fountain pens and cuff-links and now razors. I have long been interested in colognes and after shaves. Wet shaving hits all the right notes for me. It has also taken something that was a tedious chore and converted it to something I look forward to every morning. I hope you have as much fun with it as I have.
