Head Shaving with Str8?

I made a convert to straight shaving but I didn't know he would try it on his head; I didn't even know he would go out and get a straight. He purchased an old razor & strop off a friend/antique dealer (I informed him that the old leather was probably a mistake and it began falling apart on the ends; and the scales where warped; but the blade was in good shape with some surface rust). I warned him right off the bat that he would quickly learn how to move and how NOT to move his head & hand (i.e. don't move your head side to side and move the blade directly back away from your face). I gave him some tips, honed his blade up to 16k, and brought him to B&B's sight, recommending that he go through the tutorials. The next time I saw him he had a three inch long red mark on the top of his skull but was determined not to give up. I don't shave my head. Does anyone here shave their skull with a str8? Is that recommended? Is it possible? He doesn't want to spend more money on a new razor, that would defeat the reason he bought the razor in the first place.

Yes, I do every day. I have found that just because a razor is shave ready doesn't mean that every razor will feel the same. Example: For the most part all my razors are shave ready. Some are different sizes, different steel, have been finished at different grits on different stones. Out of say 16 razors only 4 of them feel fantasic on face and head. All 16 feel great on face, (They can shave my dome but it just not as pleasurable so I don't use them). This is my millage...The 4 that just feel fantastic on my head...1 is stainless and the others have been honed (finished at a very high grits). Last night I was shaving my head with a razor I had not used in a while and it just wasn't fun...I put it away and grabed on of the four...that is what made me start to think about what the difference was. Answer: Yes your friend can use a str8 razor on his head...IMO the razor should be as comfortable as combing his hair...if it's not it just won't be as fun...I wouldn't really enjoy it at that point.

I'd think it be easier to learn how to use a straight by learning how shaving your face with it first. Once you get the hang of it, then move on to shaivng the head.

Anyway, I've read that you need to be able to shave with each hand when shaving your head with a straight. If you can't do that on your face...

Kung-Fu - awesome -HAR, HAR. . .

That looks real too; not like a movie prop straight, like the one Dianna Troi uses to shave Riker in Star Trek Insurrection. She holds the thing at a right angle to his face.
