I purchased it even though it uses e.s.e. pods simply because it was so cheap I felt like I needed to. From everything I've read and seen it seems to get pressure and heat right, so now I'm just trying to scour info on the best e.s.e pods. Would Illy be the best choice? I'm not expecting great espresso, but I do want the best available for pods.

I put the milk in the microwave for a few mins making sure its not too hot and I use a cheap Ikea battery operated frother works great...

I find sime pods work better than others. some extract way to fast some take longer. Make sure you have proper water temp as well. I have other big machines here ,but this is fun to use and works well... I also have way too many pods hehehee.

I've been using mine the past few days, and it's incredibly convenient, easy, and fast. The craziest part about the whole thing, is that even with e.s.e. pods it still pulls a better shot than I can get at almost any cafe around me! Makes me want to get the one you can use your own ground coffee with.

that's the one i'm interested in as well. it just seems a little pricey to me. for that much, i can get an el-cheapo machine that will at least give me a steam wand...

I am a student and traveled abroad to Italy. When I came home, I no longer wanted to drink my drip coffee black, I wanted espresso! I couldn't afford a few hundred dollars for a machine, and I travel frequently (I go on a new clinical rotation every 2 months). I paired the handpresso with a Hario Mini-mill hand grinder. The grinder can be adjusted to grind fine enough for espresso, and for $140 total investment I can have espresso anywhere I go! (and do not have to buy pods, which get very expensive) I highly recommend it!

I really love this handpresso idea and want to get one. But I don't understand why it has to be this expensive, compared with my $5 Venezuela-made and my $15 bialetti moka pots. :blushing: $40 is closer to my purchase limit. I hope there will be even less expensive version coming up :001_rolle

Walmart has some espresso machines pretty cheap. The one I have is a Mr Coffee and it makes me a pretty nice quadruple shot pot, and froths milk like nobody's business. Once you get the tamping down pat and the frothing, you can have yourself a pretty decent cappa or latte or whatever, for cheap.

I use 8:00 bean Columbian, ground in my turkish hand mill that probably cost me less than 10 bucks. It is compact and grinds enough for a quad shot. The grind is just about perfect for espresso, as it is designed to grind for Turkish coffee which is just slightly finer than espresso grind. It is adjustable to a degree.

The handpresso looks cool and it is more compact than my Mr. Coffee machine, but I will stick with what I got. It is a known quantity and I am already well beyond the learning curve with it.

It will never happen. If anything else, there will be a more expensive version. Anything coming close to real espresso at only $40 is one hell of a deal.

You are enjoying coffee. You are not enjoying espresso. I started with a Mr. Coffee 4-cup "espresso" machine like yours. Real espresso is a whole other beverage. It's not even similar.

While you may enjoy your moka (it's closer to moka than espresso), it is too different to be compared to something that brews espresso.

Espresso at home isn't cheap, but it doesn't have to be as expensive as it can seem. Of course, "expensive" is relative. Inexpensive home espresso will run about $400 for the entire setup, assuming that either the grinder or the machine will be second hand or refurbished.

There's no shame in not doing espresso. Espresso is only a brew method. A brew method does not good coffee make, as long as it is brewed correctly.
