If you're like me, you've never been able to warm up to the plastic handle on the Knack or the Slim Twists. To me, they embody allot of the tacky blah of the 1960s-1970s. Some people love them - as always YMMV, but to me - blech!
BUT - I have found them to be a comfortable shaver.
It recently dawned on me that they are the only classic Gillette TTOs that have the twist mechanism up near the top, and I figured they may be easily transplanted to a wood handle! And guess what? I figured right!
They appear to be held in merely by friction/pressure - perhaps a light amount of adhesive, but the head came ofs with little effort.
This is my first, rough attempt to transplant the knack head to a custom handle - snakewood in this case - and while I'm pleased with the results, I think there's definitely room for improvement. Perhaps a different shape - a larger all-wood handle maybe. Not sure, but I will definitely be making and experimenting more of these! The knacks/twists were the ugly step-children that collected dust in my collection.
With a head transplant, there may be hope for them yet! Mwaaahh haaa haaa!
