What's new

Had to cold water shave today.

Full cold, as in no hot water in the house cold (the nozzle on my hot water heater needs to be changed, and my wife didn't tell me until I went to take a shower before work - I work overnights, which left me unable to even go get the part) - cold shower, cold water to lather up with and cold water rinse off. Granted I only bumped the ugly off, but it wasn't as awful as I thought it would be.

Ouch I also had a no hot water problem last march, for 10 days, it was quite awful... I didn't shave often, I had to boil water and put it in the sink...

I had that problem too quite recently. I found with a big enough kettle and a little imagination you can get by.... its not perfect, but it can be done.

I just discovered "Cold Water Shaving" on purpose!!! I was very skeptical, but I now shave every day with cold water. My skin thanks me. There are some interesting articles to read if you like before you think about filling the sink with hot again. Give it a week then decide.

Hey Nycalling. I've never myself with hot water. And I wet shave all my live: + 25 years. Very satisfying and, as you probably found out, you're very much awake too... ;-) And it's something less to worry about in the morning too.

i use cold water too. well, i just run the water on cold until the sink is full. I didn't notice much of a difference.

I've been cold water showering and cold water shaving for the last 4 months. My shaves have been the same as before, maybe even better!

I bought a large hand thrown ceramic pitcher and wash basin for shaving use when I'm camping, so while I'd manage with cold water, I have nicer solutions already setup to go at home. lol I've read some of the cold water discussions, but for myself, I just like the feel of the hot lather and water, with the great cold water splash and towel when I'm done. :)

I'm glad I tried cold water shaving, it is giving me better shaves than I accomplished with hot or warm water. I hear some folks' skin can't handle cold water shaving in winter (too dry?), so I guess I'll have to see how that evolves for me. Until then, cold water shaving it is.

Lacking hot water for shaving could sure give a shock to the system if you're not expecting it. I cold water shave year round as the results are much better and I haven't wanted to return to hot or warm water shaving.

Converted cold water shaver here. Being hot natured and living in SoCal can make hot water shaving a bit uncomfortable. Complete 180 once I started using cold water.

See, I cold water lathered the other day, and just really didn't like the experience, and I don't need any difference in the result, my shaves are great as is... close, comfy, relaxing. I lose at least the relaxing part for myself with cold water.

I cold water lather (partially) because the lather gets cold quickly. I guess that's where the scuttle comes in. I know some shaving vets swear by the cold water system.

I can understand it... a bit like the difference between a hottub and a cool mountain stream. Both are refreshing in their own way, and some will prefer one over the other, I guess. Like, one of my favorite parts of my routine is the cold towel and water on my face once I'm all done. If I could make it actually ice water cold, I would. The effect I get would be lost with a cold water shave.
