Gymnastics

My wife and I just had a our two boys start gymnastics, this along with soccer and swimming. Anyone else have kids in gymnastics or grow up competing?

This is intense stuff, I like it!

My boys are only 3 and 5 and having a good time. I met a parent who's son has been competing for 8 years and trains 20 hours a week and it sounded like it was the norm for those competing in the teen range.

My 4 yr old daughter has done a few semesters of gymnastics and my 2 1/2 yr old is getting ready to start. It is great for the kids social skills etc. I have heard as they get older it is one of the worst sports on the joints though.
I really want to get my girls in karate. I was always tough growing up with big brothers and I really want my girls to be able to defend themselves, from where I stand now they have a little more of the mommy gene so I should not have any worries. (They will beating up boys).
This go around my 4 yr old is taking an acrobats class at the dance studio she attends and they seem to be far more advanced than any of the gymnastics centers around here. That is just the tumbling part though.
Soccer is coming up in a couple weeks too and it seems that all of these sports are very demanding from a very early age.

I wish I had done that sport. I am short and when I was in shape I had nearly a 40 inch vertical jump and was very strong for my size. I might have been better at that sport than any other.
