What's new

Greetings and ID request

Hello everyone,

I have recently discovered this incredible online community. I thought I was a throwback to neanderthal times as a safety razor user, and I amazed by how folks still use this olde tyme method of shaving. Browsing these boards though make me think I'm behind the curve. Over the years, I have found that my safety razor yields a baby smooth shave, with practically none of the irritation that comes from achieving a slightly inferior shave with a modern multi-blade face scraper. That said, the time for a new safety razor has long past. My razor has seen countless years of service and its age is showing. I asked my dad if he a razor he could spare, but he switched to the cartridge multi-blades, and can't find his old safety razors.

The razor I have now comes from my father, but he has no idea what brand it is, or where he got the thing. It has an open comb, and the handle unscrews into two parts. From what I found here, it is in the Gillette old style type of razor. The knurling is pretty deep, and the razor has decent weight to it, though I have no reference for comparison. There is no marking on the razor, anywhere, except on the underside of the cap. The marking looks to be of a spoon and fork. Photo's are attached. Would anyone know anything about this razor?

Welcome to our humble community. I've never seen a razor like that, very cool. Stick around awhile and you will love this forum. Many good people are here. Where are you located if I may ask?

Hello Morman Bridge,

Compared to some of the beauties I have seen here, I thought my razor looked rather utilitarian. I am located in the Chicago area, USA.

Well hello Mr. Bob, do you mind if I send you a message? I have something you may be interested in. The reason I asked where you are located was so I could get an idea of postal rates. I will send you a message to explain. Here at the B&B we have a tradition of helping new members, I will explain further in my message.

Welcome to B&B!

That razor looks like a copy of a Gillette old type. That spoon-and-fork mark under the cap may indicate the maker, but I do not recognize it. Does the handle unscrew in the middle, into two pieces? If so my guess would be a German travel razor.

I recently saw this razor go on eBay that didn't look much like this one at all, but also had a fork and spoon logo on it. I can't tell you much at all about it, but it was listed by a seller in Hungary as a "Hungarian 'Worker' communist safety razor."

Thank you for the welcome everyone.

The handle does indeed unscrew in the middle, so I suppose that makes it a travel razor. The marking on the handle from the ebay razor sure does look like it matches, which, if it is old eastern bloc, makes me wonder more where this thing came from. In any case, it's time to retire to a quiet spot in the medicine cabinet.

I found that listing, but the seller did not have any more info... great catch though, thanks!

Welcome to B&B, Bob. There's a lot of wet shaving wisdom here. Love the razor and the fact you got it from your father. I use a 30s Schick of my dad. It's cool too.

Hi Mr Bob, welcome to B&B!

If you have the time, come on over to the Shave Clinic and Newbie forum and introduce yourself. We're glad to have you with us, and I'm sure you'll find B&B to be both a wealth of information and a bunch of great folks!
