Got my 'vintage' Aqua Velva four pack finally - does the Musk always smell this bad?

My brother-in-law who rents from us had taken the damn delivery box when it was delivered and forgot to remind me he had it. Anyway, this was the purchase



Not sure if I overpaid : definitely small bottles, although they are pretty cool looking and glass. The main issue is the aroma of the Musk. I don't know if it went bad, or if I was expecting something different, but it's unwearable. It's a HEAVY Musk, and even on dry down it smells...I dunno, just harsh I guess. The other three are OK (the Ice Blue is actually pretty good, the Menthol Mist is not too bad, the Frost Lime so-so) but all three are wearable : The Musk is unbearable.

Anybody else have the same experience?

How's menthol mist smell? That's the one I always wonder about. I personally do not like the Musk version.

It's not that bad : it's a little 'sickly sweet' per my wife, but on dry down it smells decent. The Musk, from the moment I opened the bottle, was eye watering. And not in the good way.

I mean, I'm not a AS snob. I like the Clubman, Old Spice and so forth. But man, that Musk....

If you ever go to Walmart, CVS, RiteAid, etc. smell some of the musk there. The formula probably hasn't changed.

I like the AV Musk..how you think it compares to the new stuff in the plastic bottle?

Can't lie : I haven't tried the new stuff in the plastic bottle. Granted, the glass bottle smell isn't encouraging me to try the plastic....

I'd just go to the store and dab some on your wrist like I did, because it made me not want it. I'm not a huge musk fan.

I have not smelled the vintage one. But the new stuff wasn't unbearable to smell from the bottle. I don't like it, but it didnt make me cringe.

Are there any other 'musk' scents you have smelled? Do you get the same reaction? Could be your nose's aversion to musk, or the juice could have gone bad, but since it sounds like the others are still good, it sounds like it is your nose.

Hopefully, someone will come along whom has tried both.
