Good razor brand?

Ok so I'm finally diving in and found the razor that I want. I'm pretty sure I've read that Joseph Rodgers and sons razor were good but I wanted to make sure before I buy it. So are they good razors and have you ever used them?

Good yes, it depends on the condition. If it has pitting on the edge, no good and that's any brand. Any pictures?

Description says made around 1875 give or take and there is no pitting

Beautiful razor. A lot of folks recommend to start with a round point razor as you are less likely to get "bit" while learning. That particular razor is listed as a 1/4 hollow grind. I, myself, prefer a heavier grind like that, though many prefer is a more hollow grind. It is completely a YMMV type of thing.

Regardless, it is a beautiful razor.

Someone with more experience and wisdom than I will chime in soon.

Nice razor - price is steep IMO.
Even so - If it speaks to you like no other, then that's a very nice choice.

When you guys say a square edge might bite. Is that saying I might poke myself or that the square edge causes a sharp point at the corner and it could dig in? Also is it in bad taste to see if someone would negotiate a price?

The up swing of that point should make it safe enough. The squared off "spike" points can dig in if you are not careful.

They are excellent razors, I just finished shaving with mine... smooth as silk. I'm certainly no expert but mine seems to take and hold and an edge as good or better then than any other razor I own. Then again mine was honed by Doc226 so the edge was, like all of his work, simply fantastic. If I run across another I will be buying it.
