The 70s and 80s were a time of excess where excess was affordable and convenience trumped everything.
Paralleling the "Ecology" movement of the 70s was the "Me first" movement of the latter half of the baby boom and the beginnings of "Generation-X"
The culture was summed up quite nicely with the differences between the family members in the show "Family Ties"
That was a fun read . . . interesting, though, is how Gillette's premium "shaving systems" continued to evolve into the multi-bladed vibrating goobers that they are today, with replacement carts priced out of sight, while they still sell quite a fist full of disposables. Gillette's profitability on the disposable must be satisfactory, at best, or they would have thrown it away years ago!
